Construction Inspector - Los Angeles, CA

Overview Construction Inspector (Location: Los Angeles, CA) The position of the Construction Inspector will support LAWA's construction inspection and work as a member of LAWA Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division across multiple projects within LAWA's Tenant Improvement Program, primarily focusing on building disciplines. Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive daily inspections across building and terminal construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and project specifications. Review and interpret construction documents including blueprints and shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders. Prepare comprehensive daily inspection reports that document the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of observed construction activities, with accuracy and clarity to track progress and identify issues, deficiencies, or safety concerns in a timely manner. Verify contractor compliance with local jurisdiction requirements, building codes, and LAWA-specific standards. Support special inspections and testing activities, coordinating with engineers, contractors, and third-party agencies as needed. Track and document time-and-material work, field changes, and job quantities when assigned. Assist in validating contractor progress payment requests based on an approved schedule of values when assigned. Perform inspections related to building construction, including but not limited to: Clearing, grubbing & demolition of building structures; Excavations, trenching & shoring; Grade & elevation survey; Structural backfill & compaction for underground utilities; Structural & nonstructural concrete work; Formwork, footings & micro piles; Sewer & storm drain inspection; Metal stud framing, drywall installation & interior finishes; Door & hardware components; T-bar ceilings, hard lids & other fire-rated components. Hardware/Software Knowledge Knowledge of Project Management Information Software used for inspection/document control (e.g., Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Word, PM Web, Adobe Pro, Bluebeam). Ability to review and utilize electronic contract documents for inspections, including change orders, submittals, RFIs, with minimal supervision. The ability to document daily progress and prepare monthly progress payment requests, track changes, verify time and material work, and document job quantities when assigned. Professional Experience Level / Minimum Qualifications Minimum of five years of experience performing inspection. Training in the use of fall protection equipment and harness with lanyard. Confined space awareness certification. Cal OSHA 30-hour training and certificate (training within the last 4 years). NFPA 70E certification required for electrical inspectors. Clear understanding and interpretation of LA City Building Code & ADA Requirements. Ability to walk long distances during shifts; primary means of traversing between terminals. Ability to climb stairs, ladders, scaffold, and crawl into work areas in terminals. Ability to work day, swing, modified, or night shifts, including weekends as dictated by the contractor's schedule. Preferred Qualifications and Experience ICC certifications and Deputy Inspector Licenses are preferred but not required. Experience inspecting large-scale airport and public building facilities, including steel and concrete structures, architectural finishes, and other construction related to airport terminal operations, ensuring conformance with safety regulations and documents. Knowledge of LA City Building codes and ADA requirements. Experience in demolition and construction from start to finish. Ability to identify and address deficiencies, ensuring all aspects of construction meet standards. Strong understanding of diverse requirements and excellent communication and time-management skills.
