Industrial Specialist III – Texas Correctional Industries Production Supervisor – Wainwright Unit Garment Factory Location: Wainwright Unit, Garland, Texas Employee Status: Regular, Full-time. Salary: $3,906.52 monthly (plus 2.5% RET less). Non-exempt. Job Summary Performs highly complex work in the production and processing of various products in the Texas Correctional Industry department. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment. Monitors inmates to ensure efficient operations. Essential Functions Monitors inmates in the performance of assigned tasks; develops production standards; recommends changes; monitors and reviews production to ensure quality and quantity control; monitors machinery and equipment maintenance. Ensures on-the-job training and safety training for inmate workers. Prepares reports of operations and related documents. Maintains security of tools, machinery, and equipment; responds to emergencies; performs correctional and custodial support functions; assists in maintaining security of assigned inmates. Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, as determined and assigned as needed. Minimum Qualifications Education, Experience, and Training Graduated from an accredited senior high school or equivalent/GED. One year full-time, wage-earning experience in garment manufacturing or two years full-time experience in any production or manufacturing operation. (Substitution: 30 semester hours per year of education for each year of experience, up to 2 years). Correctional custody or law enforcement experience preferred. Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of quality control standards. Knowledge of production and workflow procedures. Knowledge of agency and departmental structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations is preferred. Knowledge of garment manufacturing preferred. Ability to communicate ideas and instructions clear and concisely. Ability to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public. Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Problem-solving skills. Training and supervising inmates skills. Use of machinery and equipment skills preferred. Physical and Environmental Requirements Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs and ladders, identify colors, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetical, lift and carry 15-44 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and equipment. Work inside, around machines with moving parts, radiant and electrical energy, noise, dust, fumes, grease, oils, solvents, and travel by car, van, bus, airplane. Use of equipment such as computer, calculator, copier, fax machine, garment manufacturing machines, hand tools, forklift, pallet jack, telephone, dolly, automobile.
