Position Overview
Job Posting Note: Our organization is seeking a full-time, board eligible or board certified pediatric hematologist/oncologist to join the Division of Hematology/Oncology. We welcome candidates with interests in benign hematology, immune deficiencies, white blood cell disorders, or bone marrow failure syndromes. Experience in research and program development is highly desirable as we aim to enhance our services in these fields.
The selected candidate will engage in clinical care, educational activities, and clinical research. They will play a vital role within the Division of Hematology/Oncology/BMT at our Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, managing both inpatient and outpatient hematology patients.
Our Center serves as the primary referral facility in the Southwestern region, handling around 1,500 new hematology cases annually. We have a significant patient base, including nearly 550 individuals with congenital bleeding disorders at our federally funded Hemophilia Treatment Center, over 325 patients with sickle cell disease or thalassemia, and approximately 150 new thrombosis cases each year. We operate multidisciplinary clinics for various conditions, including hemophilia, immunohematology, neurovascular diseases, and chronic transfusion needs related to bone marrow failure and red blood cell enzyme deficiencies. Our hematology team is dedicated to delivering top-tier care to patients in the Southwest and is involved in active clinical and laboratory research, along with multiple ongoing clinical trials. We are looking for someone eager to contribute to the growth and development of our program.
Qualified candidates must be board eligible or board certified in pediatric hematology-oncology and possess a strong interest in hematology. Applicants should demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively with teams on patient-centered, division-focused, and hospital-wide initiatives.
The staff physician will provide patient care services and uphold our organization's mission of delivering hope, healing, and exceptional healthcare for children and their families.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care Services
1) Deliver patient care services within their clinical privileges, including but not limited to:
- a) Direct patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings
- b) Provide subspecialty consultations and follow-up care
- c) Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
- d) Offer urgent and emergent care as required
2) Aim for optimal patient and family-centered care
3) Support the hospital's patient satisfaction objectives and division-specific targets
4) Adhere to divisional standards for patient safety and quality of care
5) Practice contemporary evidence-based medicine or the latest experience-based approaches
Divisional Responsibilities
1) Set and strive to meet annual goals and objectives for physicians (individual, division, hospital)
2) Contribute to the medical education initiatives of the Division, including:
- a) Supervision of trainees and allied health professionals in inpatient and outpatient services
- b) Conducting teaching rounds, lectures, and conferences for trainees
- c) Participating in the education and supervision of trainees and allied health professionals within the division
- d) Engaging in postgraduate continuing education activities
3) Support the division's research efforts, including initiatives led by other team members
4) Foster programmatic growth within the division
5) Assist with satellite initiatives of the division when appropriate

Additional Activities

2) Conduct teaching rounds or conferences outside the organization, particularly if they support divisional clinical and educational initiatives
3) Represent the organization in the medical and business communities and to the public in a professional manner
4) The following physical and mental skills are essential for fulfilling the responsibilities of this role:
- a) Ability to communicate via telephone, computer, or other devices
- b) Willingness to perform after-hours or night call duties as necessary
- c) Ability to maintain a regular work schedule
