The successful candidate will play an integral role in the continued expansion of our regional thoracic surgery practice through clinical excellence, program development, outreach initiatives, and referral network growth.Position ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will provide comprehensive thoracic surgical care across the continuum of treatment, including pre-operative evaluation, operative management, and post-operative care. Clinical responsibilities include the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant thoracic diseases, utilizing both traditional and minimally invasive surgical approaches.Additional responsibilities include:Performing the full spectrum of general thoracic surgical procedures.Demonstrating expertise in minimally invasive thoracic surgery, including Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS) and robotic-assisted thoracic surgery.Participating in multidisciplinary thoracic oncology care and treatment planning.Collaborating closely with Interventional Pulmonology, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Gastroenterology, and other specialty services.Actively contributing to multidisciplinary tumor boards and cancer program initiatives.Supporting the continued growth and strategic development of the thoracic surgery service line.Participating in quality improvement, clinical outcomes initiatives, and programmatic development efforts.Academic ResponsibilitiesAs a faculty member within the School of Medicine, the successful candidate will be expected to:Teach and mentor thoracic surgery fellows, general surgery residents, and medical students.Participate in educational conferences, curriculum development, and scholarly activities.Engage in clinical, translational, or outcomes-based research.Contribute to academic productivity through publications, presentations, and professional society involvement.Support the academic mission of the Department of Surgery and UConn School of Medicine.QualificationsRequired Qualifications:MD, DO, or equivalent degree.Completion of an accredited Thoracic Surgery fellowship.Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Thoracic Surgery.Eligibility for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Connecticut.Demonstrated commitment to academic medicine, patient-centered care, and multidisciplinary collaboration.Strong interpersonal, communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.Preferred Qualifications:Three to five years of clinical experience following fellowship training.Special interest and expertise in esophageal disease and esophageal cancer.Advanced endoscopic skills.Proficiency with robotic thoracic surgery.Evidence of scholarly activity, research involvement, and/or program development.Interest in expanding regional outreach and referral relationships.About UConn HealthUConn Health is Connecticut's public academic medical center and is nationally recognized for excellence in patient care, medical education, and research.
