Job Title: Respiratory Therapist II Profession: Respiratory Therapist Specialty: Pediatrics Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Two (2) years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist License: Current certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) required Certifications: ACLS, NRP, PALS, CPFT, or advanced practice certificate to administer moderate sedation in Bronchoscopy Lab Must-Have: - Demonstrated advanced level of knowledge in respiratory care and assigned patient care areas - Competent care in airway management, mechanical ventilator management, oxygen therapy, and aerosol therapy - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret clinical information and technical procedures - Ability to document clinical information accurately - Effective communication skills to relay information and respond to inquiries Description: Under the direction of department management and according to defined policies and procedures, the Respiratory Therapist II demonstrates an advanced level of knowledge in respiratory care. The Respiratory Therapist II administers competent care through airway management, mechanical ventilator management, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, and respiratory care procedures and treatments. Administers standard respiratory care including aerosol medication delivery, basic bedside pulmonary function testing, and breathing exercises. Provides all aspects of airway management including aspiration of established airways, tracheostomy care, and endotracheal intubations and extubations. May perform pulmonary function testing as needed. When working with transport units, may transport pediatric and neonatal patients from referral hospitals per established protocols. May perform respiratory care and advanced practice procedures as needed, including IV insertion, chest tube insertion, and other necessary interventions. May manage extracorporeal circulation for cardiac and respiratory support of patients. Required to be on-call days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Performs all aspects of ventilator care, including setup, monitoring, and weaning techniques. Maintains and improves job knowledge and skills independently with minimal supervision. Serves as a resource to other staff reflecting experience level.
