Medical Assistant - Per Diem

Job Summary Provides direct patient care and clinical support for physicians and other providers in the outpatient setting. Functions as an integral member of the health care team under the direction of the provider. Performs clinical duties such as preparing patients, collecting and reviewing pertinent information, performing technical duties, documenting using the electronic medical record, and supporting a safe environment for patients. Provides administrative and clerical support for the clinic/department including patient scheduling, filing reports, and following up on documentation, phone calls, and billing inquiries. Responsibilities Prepare patients, collect and review pertinent information, perform technical duties, document using EMR, and support a safe environment. Administrative and clerical support including patient scheduling, filing reports, and addressing documentation, phone calls, and billing inquiries. Assist with patient preparation and examination, perform EKGs, wound dressings, support minor surgical procedures, and ancillary examinations. Prepare and administer medications per policy and procedure, excluding intravenous medications. Complete patient tests and treatments per provider orders. Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, perform phlebotomy and assist with laboratory functions. Function as receptionist and clerk, matching and filing ancillary reports, and updating medical records. Use the electronic medical record and scheduling system, facilitate timely appointments, complete referrals and pre‑authorizations, and collect co‑payments. Assist orientation of new personnel and provide ongoing patient communication. Advise patient education and inventory medical supplies and pharmaceuticals (non‑controlled). Clean instruments, disinfect equipment, maintain examination rooms, and follow infection prevention protocols. Inspect diagnostic equipment and report maintenance needs. Participate in patient safety and quality improvement programs. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; graduate of an accredited 1‑year certificate or 2‑year diploma Medical Assistant program preferred. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required. Certification by NHA, AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, AAH, or AMCA required. Basic Life Support certification within 6 months. Minimum of 1 year related work experience preferred. Excellent communication, customer service, multitasking, and teamwork skills. Location & Schedule Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital Professional Building. Shift: Days. Monday‑Friday 7:30 am‑8:00 pm; weekends required. Hours may vary based on need.
