SUMMARY:

Primarily responsible for serving meals to residents and guests in the dining room or other designated areas. Provides assistance in all nutrition services functions as directed, in accordance with established processes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

Serves the residents and guests during meal times with speed and efficiency.

Observes diners to anticipate any additional needs, respond to requests, and determine when meal has been completed.

Responds to resident or guest complaints regarding food or service.

Clears and re-sets tables at conclusion of each resident/guest meal.  Changes table cloths as needed.

Assists residents with obtaining food from buffet/serving table as needed.

Assists residents with seating and assistive devices as needed.

Keeps dining room and kitchen area clean by performing cleaning and laundry duties as assigned.  Routine duties include, but are not limited to sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, shampooing carpets, emptying trash, processing dirty linens, folding

linens, and preparing place-setting linen/silverware packs.

Re-fills individual condiment containers on each table as needed.

Keeps drink stations clean and ready for service.

Keeps ice bins filled.

Perform dishwasher duties as assigned.

Ensure food served to each resident is in accordance with residents’ doctor ordered diet. Unless otherwise approved by Charge Nurse or RD and CDM and in accordance with Residents Rights.

Collects meal tickets or cash for meals from visitors. Turns in money and documents visitor meals charges in accordance with department procedures. 

Assists co-workers as needed.

OTHER JOB DUTIES:

Complies with all company policies/procedures related to resident privacy/ confidentiality and information system security, to insure compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

Observes facility policies and procedures, including Resident Rights policies.

Performs job duties in an efficient, productive, and professional manner.

Actively supports the implementation of Hill View’s mission and statement of purpose.

Participates in training, workshops, etc. to keep abreast of current issues/trends related to his/her job duties.

Accepts job assignments with positive spoken word and body language.

Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALFICATIONS:

Demonstrates good interpersonal and communication skills. The employee must be able to organize work activities with minimal supervision. Must be able to set priorities and plan workload independently.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  

Must have completed at least two years of high school. At least three months previous experience in waitress/server position preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  

Must have the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Must have the ability to write simple correspondence. Must be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to residents, families, and employees of the organization. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  

Must have ability to add and subtract whole numbers. Must have ability to count money and count back change.

REASONING ABILITY:  

Must have ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Must have ability to solve practical problems and concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  

Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and speak and listen to residents. Occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch. Required to talk, hear, and clearly respond to residents. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds, and may occasionally assist to lift or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  

The indoor environment is standard with fluorescent lighting and central heating/cooling. While performing this job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee may be subject to hostile or emotionally upset residents/visitors. The employee may encounter frequent interruptions.
