What you will do: The Environmental Compliance Specialist will have primary responsibility for the environmental compliance programs for Electra. In such capacity, this person will support the development and standardization of scalable environmental compliance programs for the current Electra facilities in Boulder and Broomfield and any future sites. This individual will play a critical role in identifying legal requirements, securing necessary permits to support expansion, and implementing plans to achieve continuous compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental legal requirements. Responsibilities include: Environmental Program Development & Compliance Primary environmental compliance lead for assigned Electra locations. Independently manages environmental compliance programs to ensure compliance with EPA, DOT, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations with limited supervision. Solve complex, site‑level compliance challenges and escalates as appropriate to the manager. Secure and renew environmental operating permits (Air, Water, etc.) as necessary for all operations. Complete all required annual environmental reports required by site environmental permits or federal, state or local requirements (CAA, CWA, EPCRA, RCRA). Coordinate any emissions performance testing, effluent or waste sampling and analysis as required. Develop and implement environmental policies, and procedures tailored to a chemical and heavy industrial environment. Proactively identify environmental risks and advise effective mitigations. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate environmental considerations into operational processes and SOPs. Lead environmental release or spill incident investigations and root cause analyses; develop and implement corrective and preventive actions. Advise internal stakeholders on regulatory requirements and serve as the site‑level liaison with regulatory agencies and external auditors. Characterize all wastes and maintain effective records. Oversee safe handling, storage, offsite transportation and disposal of hazardous chemicals for multiple sites. Contribute to and maintain emergency response plans, spill control, and fire protection systems, and ensure that they satisfy all RCRA, DOT, SPCC, and Stormwater emergency planning requirements. Travel as needed to obtain or maintain personal training/certifications and benchmarks internally and externally. Estimated to be approximately 2 weeks per year. Health and Safety Program Support, Training and Culture Building Demonstrate commitment to Electra’s values by contributing positively to the site’s safety culture. Design and deliver environmental compliance training programs for operators, technicians, and leadership. Promote a proactive EHS culture through coaching, audits, and continuous improvement. Serve as a visible safety leader on the plant floor, modeling best practices and engaging with frontline teams. Monitoring & Reporting Timely and accurate environmental reporting per legal and/or permit requirements. Develop, track and report environmental performance metrics, incidents, and corrective actions. Conduct regular inspections, audits, and investigations to identify and mitigate risks. Monitor and close out action items stemming from incident investigations, hazard analyses, and/or audits. What we need you to bring to the team: Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, environmental science, or related field. Minimum of 5 years of environmental experience in mining, manufacturing, chemical industry, or similar environment. Proven experience developing and implementing environmental programs in a manufacturing or industrial setting. Experience solving complex environmental compliance issues with limited supervision. Strong experience securing environmental permits to operate (Examples: Stormwater Permits, Industrial Pre‑Treatment Wastewater Discharge Permits, Title V Operating Permits). Strong knowledge of hazardous materials handling and pollution control. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills. Flexibility and willingness to support a cross‑functional EHS team. What we want you to bring to the team: 40‑Hour HAZWOPER Certification. Experience with PSM (Process Safety Management). Experience collaborating on Industrial Hygiene testing and results analysis. Familiarity with startup or scale‑up environments. Compensation: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $95,000 to $110,000 and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
