R&D Intern

The R&D Intern (Technical) position provides a practical learning experience for students pursuing degrees in Engineering, Materials Science, or other technical disciplines. Under the supervision of a mentor, the intern will assist with projects related to process improvement, product testing, data analysis, or technical documentation. The role offers exposure to manufacturing processes, quality systems, and research initiatives, helping the intern develop technical skills, professional competencies, and an understanding of GEON’s technologies and operations. Experience & Education Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Materials Science, or related field). Strong academic performance in technical coursework. Previous internship, co-op, or laboratory experience preferred but not required. Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, product development, or testing methods. Problem-Solving: Ability to apply analytical and technical thinking to identify root causes, proposesolutions, and improve systems or processes. Strong data analysis and interpretation skills. Technical curiosity and willingness to learn new tools, systems, and technologies. Effective written and verbal communication skills for documenting and presenting findings. Team-oriented with strong interpersonal collaboration abilities. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and comfortable learningspecialized software or lab tools. Detail-oriented and capable of following procedures and safety guidelines. Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment Primary Responsibilities Support technical projects involving process optimization, testing, or data collection. Conduct laboratory or production floor work under supervision, following all safety and qualityprotocols. Assist engineers with data entry, equipment setup, sampling, and experimental trials. Collect and analyze operational or experimental data to support process improvement initiatives. Document results, observations, and technical reports in accordance with GEON standards. Participate in problem-solving sessions and continuous improvement efforts. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Quality, and Operations. Prepare presentations or summaries of technical findings for internal review. Maintain a safe and organized work environment, adhering to all EH&S guidelines. Key Goals & Deliverables Successfully complete assigned technical projects or experiments that support businessobjectives. Develop practical engineering or scientific experience through hands-on assignments. Demonstrate growth in technical, analytical, and professional communication skills. Deliver a final presentation or report summarizing project outcomes and learning experiences. Receive positive evaluations from mentors and supervisors on performance and engagement. Work Environment & Physical Demands Combination of office, laboratory, and/or manufacturing environments depending on assignment. Regular use of computers, instruments, and testing or monitoring equipment. Must comply with all site safety and PPE requirements during lab or plant activities. Occasional standing, walking, lifting ( Travel Requirements Minimal travel required; may include travel to other GEON facilities or supplier/customer sites for training or project collaboration Standard Daily Work Perform assigned project tasks or testing activities under supervision. Collect, record, and analyze technical or process data. Attend team meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and next steps. Maintain clear and organized documentation of all work performed. Communicate daily updates or observations to mentor or project lead. Standard Weekly Work Review project progress and results with mentor or department manager. Participate in team or department meetings to align on ongoing initiatives. Assist in updating technical documentation, spreadsheets, or reports. Continue learning new tools, systems, or lab techniques related to assigned projects. Standard Monthly Work Present updates or findings to cross-functional or intern program teams. Evaluate progress toward project goals and identify learning opportunities. Participate in training sessions, site tours, or professional development events. Receive feedback from supervisor to refine technical and communication skills. Standard Quarterly Work Deliver final project presentation or written report summarizing outcomes, data, and recommendations. Participate in program wrap-up and feedback sessions. Reflect on technical and professional growth achieved during the internship.
