RN - Progressive Care Unit

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Progressive Care Unit provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager or Director, the RN is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Essential Duties

• Education:
  
  
  • Participates in identifying and addressing personal educational needs.
  • Attends educational programs based on identified learning needs.
  • Utilizes patient education materials relevant to the patient population.
  • Assesses readiness to learn of the patient, family, and caregivers.
  • Evaluates the developmental level of patients and factors affecting learning.
• Evaluation of Care:
  
  
  • Identifies expected patient outcomes and seeks guidance in revising care plans as necessary.
  • Engages in discussions with interdisciplinary team members to evaluate patient care.
  • Communicates information effectively to promote continuity of care.
• Implementation:
  
  
  • Demonstrates competence in the care of patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects.
  • Performs bedside point-of-care testing as required by the patient care plan.
  • Follows healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in care delivery.
  • Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient and family needs.
  • Consults appropriate resources regarding patients with complex care issues.
• Leadership:
  
  
  • With assistance, develops professional growth goals.
  • Achieves goals within the identified time frame or renegotiates with the supervisor.
  • Participates in the development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities.
  • Effectively utilizes communication systems and promotes cost-effective care.
• Patient Assessment:
  
  
  • Recognizes and synthesizes data from complex situations to determine care priorities.
  • Anticipates discharge needs for patients and families.
  • Builds relationships with families to encourage advocacy for the patient and their needs.

  • Collaborates with patients and families to prepare and update care plans.
  • Utilizes multidisciplinary resources in care planning.
  • Addresses cultural and ethnic considerations in patient care planning.
  • Demonstrates skills in prioritizing tasks for patients with complex needs.

  • Engages with current literature to inform practice and discusses with colleagues for applicability.

Education

  • Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited nursing school.

  • BSN or MSN from an accredited nursing school.

Certifications & Licensure

  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
