The Role: Defining the Visuals of Fortnite

We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary Senior Character Texture Artist to join the Fortnite team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for crafting the high-quality textures and materials that define our characters. From the iconic hero skins to intricate accessories like backpacks and pickaxes, your work will be seen by millions of players daily across gameplay, cinematic sequences, and marketing materials.

While our signature style is vibrant and stylized, we value versatility. We are looking for an artist who can master the “Fortnite look” while also possessing the technical proficiency to produce photo-realistic textures when project requirements demand it.

Key Responsibilities

• Texturing & Material Crafting: Create exceptional textures and materials for characters, creatures, and character-related assets.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner directly with the Art Director and Leads to ensure visual consistency. You will participate in feedback loops, offering and receiving constructive input to elevate the final product.
• Pipeline Optimization: Work within a collaborative, clean, and efficient production environment. You will actively contribute to refining our technical pipelines to enhance real-time character performance.
• Artistic Evolution: Stay ahead of industry trends, adapting your technique to push the limits of real-time rendering.

Professional Qualifications:

• Texturing Mastery: A portfolio demonstrating high-quality work across various styles, showcasing your ability to execute both organic (faces, clothing, creatures) and hard-surface (armor, weapons) assets.
• Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of color theory, PBR (Physically Based Rendering) lighting, and advanced stylized texturing techniques.
• Software Proficiency: Expert-level mastery of Substance Painter (or equivalent tools) and a solid, practical understanding of material creation in UE4 (or comparable real-time game engines).
• Adaptability: Proven capacity to innovate with new styles and techniques. We value artists who challenge themselves to do better with every asset.
• Soft Skills: Strong communication skills and the ability to thrive in a high-speed, collaborative team environment.
