Automotive Mechanic Technician III Richmond City Public Schools Transportation – Richmond, Virginia Job Details Job ID: 5733000 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Posted: May 22, 2026 4:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: Immediately Grade Level/Terms of Employment: Grade 111.3 / 12 Month (260 days) Contract FLSA Status: Non-exempt Work Location: Transportation Department Immediate Supervisor: Automotive Mechanic Lead Technician Position Type: Full-Time Salary: $44,380 to $68,250 Per Year General Description The Automotive Mechanic Technician III is responsible for servicing and repairing RPS automobiles, buses, and trucks including repairing or replacing worn or broken parts, performing preventive maintenance activities, and servicing motor vehicle equipment and related gasoline, diesel, or alternative fuel engine-powered equipment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Repairs automobiles, buses, trucks, and other motorized equipment to include preventative maintenance and component repair or overhaul Performs standard diagnostic techniques, maintains repairs, and overhauls all mechanical systems including engines, transmissions, body, electrical systems chassis, and air brake systems Installs and manages replacement parts and accessories Performs testing on all repairs to ensure quality workmanship including a road test Performs diagnostic testing using software programs such as, but not limited to, IHC Servicemaxx, Cummins Insite, Allison Doc, etc. Inspect the school buses as indicated in the VDOE preventative maintenance manual Completes school bus inspections as indicated in the Virginia State Inspection Manual Produces legible documents of repairs made on work orders Participates in cross–training of other employees Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications High school diploma or its equivalency required Trade or vocational school course(s) in automotive, truck, and vehicle maintenance with both gasoline and diesel engine training or any equivalent combination of experience and training required Minimum of eight years of experience as a skilled automotive and medium truck technician, involving repairs of buses, automobiles, and related equipment including experience in the service repair of Cummins, IHC International engines, and Allison automotive transmissions Thorough knowledge of air brake systems, suspension and steering, and electrical/electronic systems Possesses a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with P and S endorsements and the ability to obtain a State of Virginia Vehicle Inspector’s certification within one year of employment Possesses an ASE certification in a minimum of two skill areas; certification in automotive, school buses, or heavy trucks preferred Ability to lift 75 pounds regularly Owns a sufficient amount of everyday hand tools applicable to school buses and medium-duty trucks and automobiles Ability to perform a flexible schedule including being on call/rotating schedule Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills Bilingual/fluency in Spanish preferred EOE. #J-18808-Ljbffr Young World Physical Education
