Scientist, Clinical Pathology – Merck, West Point, PA. Our Research Scientists are our Inventors. We identify and target steps in disease mechanisms or pathways that could be inhibited or enhanced. Our goal is to isolate a compound that is effective against a disease target. Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (some flexibility with schedule). Specific Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to): Perform biochemistry, hematology, coagulation, and urinalysis testing of nonclinical and investigative study samples. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation. Carry out assigned tasks and apply sound basic laboratory skills that include recording, evaluation, and assessment of data. Learn new software applications and laboratory information management systems. Follow well‑established Standard Operating Procedures and Good Laboratory Practices. Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation. Comply with all local, state, and federal laws for conducting in‑vivo research. Communicate and interact with other team members. Education Minimum Requirement: BA/BS in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, life sciences, or a related discipline. Master’s preferred. Required Experience and Skills: MT or MLS, ASCP certification. A minimum of 1-2 years clinical laboratory experience using hematology, chemistry, coagulation, or urinalysis instruments; blood bank experience may supplement clinical laboratory experience. Familiarity with varied laboratory instrumentation and laboratory areas. Experience with technical applications. Attentive to detail and focused on compliance/quality. Strong written and oral communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills. Preferred Experience and Skills: Proficiency in peripheral blood smear examination. Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices. Hybrid Work Model: Effective September 5, 2023, employees in office‑based positions in the U.S. will be working a hybrid model consisting of three total days on‑site per week, Monday‑Thursday, although the specific days may vary by site or organization. Friday is a remote‑working day unless business‑critical tasks require an on‑site presence. This model does not apply to field‑based positions, facility‑based, manufacturing‑based, or research‑based positions where the work is performed at a company site, or any position where the company determines remote work cannot meet job requirements. Salary: $85,600.00 – $134,800.00 (depending on education, qualifications, certifications, experience, and business needs).
