Pediatric Emergency Medicine Physician
Phoenix Children's Hospital
Posting Note: Pediatric Emergency Medicine
Phoenix Children’s and the Division of Emergency Medicine are expanding—and inviting Pediatric Emergency Medicine Physicians to join our growing team. We welcome physicians interested in careers in academic medicine, community medicine, or opportunities that combine both.
Our division includes more than 50 PEM faculty across four sites, with diverse interests in clinical care, patient safety, medical education, quality improvement, research, and leadership. We are currently recruiting PEM physicians for Phoenix Children’s – Thomas Campus Hospital, Phoenix Children’s—Southwest Valley Free Standing ED, and Phoenix Children’s – East Valley Hospital, with opportunities for sharing time at multiple campuses and dedicated nocturnist positions.
Generous Night-Shift Compensation
All physicians who work nights receive a generous additional night-shift stipend. Whether nights are incorporated into a hybrid schedule or are part of a dedicated nocturnist role, physicians receive additional compensation for every night worked. Physicians in the nocturnist role are also eligible for competitive hours differential.
Phoenix Children’s – Thomas Campus Hospital
Phoenix Children’s – Thomas Campus is a freestanding children’s hospital with ~80,000 visits per year and is the ONLY Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in the state. It has the comprehensive pediatric subspecialty services expected for a tertiary care pediatric center. PEM physicians have numerous opportunities to participate in patient safety, research, quality improvement, medical education, and program development.
Our academic environment includes an established ACGME-accredited PEM fellowship, with 12 fellows, as well as a Phoenix Children’s large pediatric residency program. Our dedicated POCUS faculty are looking to start a POCUS fellowship in 2028. Faculty hold academic appointments at the University of Arizona, Creighton University, and Mayo Clinic School of Medicine, and there are opportunities with the 5 additional medical schools in the Phoenix metro area.
Phoenix Children’s – Southwest Free-Standing ED
Phoenix Children’s – Southwest Free-Standing ED open in 2023 and has grown to see >55,000 visits annually. The site is a Level 4 Pediatric Trauma Center. It has critical resources like an in-house pharmacist, social work, mental health therapists, respiratory therapists as well as availability of CT and Ultrasound 24 hours per day. Subspecialty support is consulted through our Thomas campus. Our dedicated critical care transport team helps to support on scene with sick patients and transports to one of our facilities with ICU or other inpatient capabilities. The site can involve supervision of University of Arizona medical students and Abrazo Emergency Medicine Residents.
Phoenix Children’s – East Valley
Phoenix Children’s – East Valley is a new freestanding Women & Children’s center in Gilbert, scheduled to open in early 2027. The site will include a 24-bed pediatric unit, PICU, Level 3 NICU, Pediatric Emergency Department, comprehensive subspecialty support, and 24/7 in-house coverage by hospitalists and intensive care providers. The ED is anticipating ~16,000 visits in the first year with growth toward ~40,000 visits by year 4.
