Accountant

AccountantThe Accountant is responsible for managing day-to-day financial operations, preparing financial statements, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting the organization's budgeting and grant reporting processes.Essential Functions:Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for nonprofits and IRS requirements for 501(c)(3) organizations.Manage restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting of grants and donor contributions.Ensure adherence to internal financial policies and procedures, as well as compliance with state and federal laws and regulations for nonprofit organizations.Assist with coordination of annual financial audits. Work closely with the development team to ensure donor contributions are recorded and tracked properly within the financial system.Reconcile donations between the donor database and accounting software to maintain accurate financial records.Perform regular maintenance and data cleanup of accounting databases to ensure accurate records.Respond to ad-hoc financial information requests.Assist in the annual budgeting process, working with various departments to ensure accurate financial projections.Under the direction of the Director of Finance, lead and implement special projects including risk management initiatives and best practices implementation.Other duties as assigned.Competencies:Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial data to non-financial stakeholders.Attention to detail.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Organizational skillsStrong Analytical skillsWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office programsAbility to maintain confidentiality.Ability to multi-taskAbility to act in a professional and friendly manner.Adaptable to changing priorities.Ability to complete tasks individually and function as part of a teamRequired Education and ExperienceBachelors' degree in Accounting, Finance or Related Field3 - 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit environmentProficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Blackbaud Financial Edge, or similar)Preferred Education and Experience:Masters' Degree6+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit environmentBlackbaud Financial Edge software experienceQuickBooks Online software experienceDonor management software experience (e.g., Raiser's Edge).Strong knowledge of GAAP, FASB regulations, and IRS reporting requirements for nonprofits.CPA or CMA Certification preferred.Work EnvironmentThis is an office-based role with occasional meetings or events outside of normal business hours.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
