Physician - Staff Radiologist (Assistant Chief) - Recruitment / Relocation Incentive up to 100 -000

Summary This position is full-time located at the Richard L Roudebush VAMC within the Radiology Department. The Assistant Chief of Radiology assists the Chief of Radiology in the management and administration of the radiology service. Up to $100,000 relocation/recruitment incentive for non‑vascular procedural radiologists and up to $75,000 for all other fellowship‑trained radiologists. Qualifications Must be board certified with the American Board of Radiology. Additional qualifications include: United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic or osteopathic medicine. Degree obtained from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Residency training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include those accredited by ACGME or AOA listed for the year the residency or fellowship was completed. One year of post‑medical‑school training (first year of residency or transitional year residency) approved by ACGME or AOA, followed by two years of independent practice under a full and unrestricted license in the United States. Non‑U.S. residency training followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent practice in the United States, performing duties related to the position being applied for. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as “Physician Resident Providers” (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; they are to have a “scope of practice” allowing certain restricted duties under supervision. Additional status: Surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Exceptional circumstances: The Facility Director may submit a memo to the VISN Director, who may approve requests for reasonable exceptions to the residency training requirement for physicians whose composite record justifies it. Conducts interpretations on diagnostic imaging modalities (MRI, CT, US, IR, or NM) and defines modality‑specific protocols. Consults with ordering providers, reviews orders, and defines imaging protocols. Assists in fee‑basis consult review and attends multidisciplinary conferences. Performs non‑IR invasive procedures and supervises/educates residents. Works with and is supported by radiology service leadership. Provides direct clinical and administrative oversight for mid‑level practitioners and other clinical staff as assigned. Ensures services are delivered efficiently, with high quality and cost‑effectiveness within budget. Works directly with the Chief of Radiology to assist in staffing and scheduling complex procedures. Participates in training and support of technical staff. Collaborates on resolving operational issues in a logical, step‑wise fashion with the Chief of Radiology and other staff. Engages in forums to identify, communicate, and resolve issues related to radiology service operations, VISN‑wide mandates, and ancillary and support operations. Supports implementation of policies, procedures, performance goals, and strategic plans. Advocates for opportunities to strengthen Medical Center and VISN goals. Implements goals to improve patient care within the Medical Center and VISN. Possesses basic understanding of managed care practices, including healthcare finance, billing, coding, and documentation. Promotes and disseminates automated technology for Health Information Management Sections (HIMS), patient data tracking, orders, etc. Maintains relationships with internal and external entities, including medical and nursing schools, public and private health care entities, and other patient services. Agrees to participate in radiology service strategic planning and local administrative, quality assurance, and committee assignments. Provides direct patient care as a consultant in outpatient clinics and/or inpatient wards and represents the radiology service at multidisciplinary conferences (e.g., Tumor Board, Chest Conference). Recruitment incentive (sign‑on bonus): Up to $100,000 relocation/recruitment incentive for non‑vascular procedural radiologists and up to $75,000 for other fellowship‑trained radiologists.
