Location: Coopersville, MI
Hire Type: Contract-to-Hire (Direct Hire Potential for the Right Candidate)
Shift: 3rd Shift Overnight | Train on 1st Shift for 3-6 Months. 2-2-3 schedule. 6:00pm to 6:00am.
Shift Differential: $1.00/hr
Compensation: $37-$39/hr 

Overview:

We are seeking a Lead Automation Technician to serve as the primary technical resource on 3rd shift supporting automated manufacturing equipment within our electronics and lightbar production operations. This is a hands-on lead role responsible for troubleshooting complex equipment issues, supporting automation systems, and mentoring technicians on shift. This position serves as the last line of defense before issues are escalated to Engineering.

Job Duties:

  • Troubleshoot and repair automated manufacturing equipment, production machinery, and test stations to minimize downtime.
  • Perform methodical root cause analysis to identify and resolve equipment, sensor, controls, and process-related issues.
  • Support and troubleshoot Fanuc robotic systems and automated production equipment.
  • Utilize PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and control systems to diagnose equipment faults and restore operation.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Partner closely with Engineering during training and collaborate on complex equipment issues and process improvements.
  • Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to Automation Technicians on shift.
  • Document equipment failures, repairs, corrective actions, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Support equipment installations, upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical support across both production lines as needed.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment, machinery, or production systems.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills with a proven ability to independently diagnose equipment failures.
  • Experience working with PLC-controlled equipment; HMI experience preferred.
  • Fanuc robotics experience preferred; training may be provided for the right candidate with strong automation troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with technicians, production personnel, supervisors, and engineers.
  • Self-motivated, positive attitude, and comfortable serving as the technical lead on shift.
