About the Department The Department of Business Law at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) seeks a tenure‑track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor. Position Overview The successful candidate will teach business law and have research interests in areas relevant to our programs. In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, participation in assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. The candidate may be required to teach on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and/or online and will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department for recommending tenure and promotion. The successful candidate will help the department achieve equitable academic outcomes for all students through teaching, student mentorship, scholarship, and service. Responsibilities Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in business law (and, if qualified, real estate). Employ a variety of teaching strategies, including the Socratic method, to enable students to think analytically and communicate effectively. Engage actively in research and publication in one's primary teaching area, maintaining scholarly academic qualification throughout employment. Provide service to the university and the broader community. Required Qualifications J.D. or J.S.D. from an ABA‑accredited law school at the time of application. Admission to a state bar at the time of application. College or university‑level teaching experience in law or legal studies. Either (a) received a J.S.D. within the past five years, or (b) published two articles in a law review within the past five years. Preferred Qualifications Experience practicing law. A Ph.D., LL.M., M.B.A., or other graduate degree in business, economics, or real estate from a college or university accredited in the United States. Law review membership, and/or experience as a law clerk at the appellate level in the United States. Ability to work collaboratively to support the department and the college. Evidence of effective engagement or potential to engage with a diverse student body. Experience using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes for all students. Experience creating a student‑centered learning environment. Research or lab experience that includes working with students from diverse backgrounds.
