CLASS ASSIGNMENT: Lead Teacher (Session 1 2/3s Teacher, Session 2 Pre-K Teacher)

HOURS: The work hours shall be Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:00-3:30 to include 2 class sessions and 1 hour of preparation and clean-up time and a 30 minute lunch. 

ADDITIONAL HOURS: The Lead Teacher must attend Parent Orientation, Staff Meetings, Meet the Teacher Day, Graduation, Field Trips, the Christmas Program and Parent/Teacher Conferences as scheduled. The teacher will be compensated as described below. On Field Trip Days, the Teacher will be paid for their normal shift.

SALARY: The Lead Teacher’s salary is based on enrollment and qualifications. If at any time these circumstances change, these figures may be reviewed and changed by the Preschool Director. The formula for salary is based on the following:

Hourly Pay : $15 per hour

Hours per day : 6 hrs/day 

Days of school : The Preschool Director and Board will determine the number of school 

​days based generally on the Puyallup School District Calendar.  A tentative 

​calendar will be given to employees at the beginning of the school year; however, 

​changes may be made to the calendar by the Preschool Director and Board.

​

Pay Periods :  The Employee’s salary is payable twice a month, the 1st and the 16th.  

Withholdings : Worker’s Comp, Federal Income Tax, Social Security and Medicare will 

​be withheld from each paycheck based on state law and W4 to be completed by 

​the employee at the beginning of the term. These will be reflected on the 

​employee’s pay stub.

Primary Purpose of Lead Teacher:

To supervise and support all teachers employed by Thrive KidsPreschool. In addition to the responsibilities held as a teacher, the Lead Teacher will hold additional responsibilities and will be compensated through their wages. This position goes to the staff member who is most qualified according to the Preschool Director. This position may shift at any time to another person if a more qualified person is hired.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Agree with the core values, mission and philosophy of the Preschool

• Have the ability to implement Christian curriculum including Bible stories and prayer.

• Be sensitive to the needs of children and have a sincere interest in them.

• Be able to work with children at their level; accepting them for who they are and ​respecting them as individuals.

• Have the ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children and their families.

• Have the ability to develop and implement worthwhile and challenging lessons for the 

​children, enriching the provided curriculum as you see fit.

• Have the ability to support and work cooperatively with other staff members.

• Be able to supervise the children and teachers constructively.

• Have the ability to recognize and record significant individual and group ​behavior.

• CPR & First Aid certified.

• Be well organized, competent, creative, and enthusiastic.

• Be fair, sympathetic and consistent in dealing with children, parents and staff.

• Have 3 years or more of teaching experience or related education. 

• Attend a church regularly.

EXPECTATIONS OF ALL TEACHERS:

• Provide, within a Christian context, a warm, safe and loving environment where

childhood is embraced as a precious gift from God. 

• Lead children by example, to love God, love people and share Jesus’ love with

others.

• Commit to educate and strengthen the development of all children through a focus

on the whole child (physical, intellectual, social/emotional and spiritual) while reaching the needs of each child and the group.

• Interact with the children and encourage involvement in all activities.

• Design “Learning Centers”. Make changes to these centers on a weekly basis to

meet curricular needs.

• Plan sufficiently so that the classroom runs smoothly and meets the needs of each ​child. Planning may also be necessary outside of working hours and must be

completed at least one day before the scheduled lesson.

• Prepare a nurturing environment that is orderly, clean and appealing to children, 

​but still permits the children to grow and explore.

• Responsible for the safety of the children, supervising them closely and maintaining an 

environment which discourages accidents through proper choice of activities and equipment.

• Responsible for informing Aides of any materials needed for classroom projects.

• Prepare lesson plans which are age-appropriate and include a variety of activities ​to stimulate all areas of child development.

• Establish and maintain open communication with parents through parent ​conferences, 

​daily conversations and Open House meetings.

• Use appropriate and positive discipline, focusing on gentleness and understanding, 

​remembering that each child responds differently to discipline and may need specific 

​behavior plans.

• Maintain open communication with your classroom Aide. Be supportive and helpful. If 

​problems arise, please report to the Preschool Director.

• Attend staff meetings and any additional trainings suggested by the Preschool Director.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES SPECIFIC TO THE LEAD TEACHER:

• Health and Safety Officer: oversee all fire drills, and assure that all safety guidelines are 

​met.

• Assist in conducting staff meetings and trainings as requested. Minutes must be ​recorded 

​and filed.

• Assure that the curriculum is age-appropriate.

• Oversee the curriculum planning of all teachers.
