Shop Supervisor

Springfield Park District is seeking a Shop Supervisor for the General Maintenance department. The position reports to the Superintendent of Park Maintenance or designee and is classified as a Non-Exempt - Bargaining Unit Position with a salary based on the contractual wage scale.

Position Summary:

The Shop Supervisor is responsible for the overall repair, maintenance, operations, and organization of all equipment and inventory for the efficient operation of vehicle and equipment mechanical maintenance. This position oversees the work of Shop Technicians or other Maintenance personnel, ensuring that work orders, overall repairs, and shop operations are fulfilled in accordance with General Maintenance and other applicable standards.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Oversee and perform mechanic duties of Shop Technicians or other Maintenance personnel.
• Maintain and control inventories of supplies, parts, tools, and equipment.
• Manage the physical aspects of the shop and inventory of supplies/parts.
• Collaborate with outside mechanical shops for maintenance of vehicles, mowers, and other equipment.
• Work with Superintendent and administrative personnel to purchase supplies, parts, tools, and equipment.
• Maintain accurate records of work orders, invoices, inventory, and other relevant supplies.
• Develop and train mechanics or other employees on mechanical, technical, or other areas relevant to maintenance operations.
• Recommend corrective actions for Shop personnel to the Superintendent.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Park Maintenance or designee.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Experience in performing repairs and maintenance to vehicles, tools, and other equipment.
• Management experience in a mechanical maintenance shop and inventory/parts control.
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
• Ability to perform simple math and measurement calculations.
• Valid Illinois Driver's License and Class "C" Driver's License.
• Obtain ASE or equal certification within 6 months of hire.
• Continued education on new trends, technics, procedures, and training for other Shop personnel.
• Working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment both gas and diesel and automotive apparatuses.
• Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair equipment with accuracy and speed.
• Knowledge/certification in welding and fabrication.
• Computer knowledge for record keeping. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel preferred).

General Requirements:

• Ability to read and write with good command of the English language.
• Good oral and written communication.
• Physical capabilities – lifts 50 pounds, squat, bend, and move as necessary for the job.
• Ability to perform basic mathematics.
• Valid Illinois Driver's License with a class "C" classification.
• Neat and professional appearance.
• Responsible to follow policies and procedures outlined in Springfield Park District employee manual.
• Must reside within a 50-mile radius from the Bunn Administrative office (2500 South 11th Street) within six (6) months from the date of being hired by the Park District.
