Summary:

Vighter is recruiting an experienced Flight Registered Nurses (RN) Site Lead at the hub in El Paso, TX. Site Leads supervise small teams of Registered Nurses at each airport hub and provide exceptional detainee care and accountability. Site Leads typically have demonstrated proficiency and availability with previous service as a full time Flight Registered Nurse. Flight Registered Nurses (RN) conduct basic screening assessments and provide healthcare services to individuals detained by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) teams during deportation flights from El Paso, TX. Site leads at each hub focus on scheduling, accountability, discipline, training, flight execution, treatment documentation and leadership for registered nurses.

Vighter’s Flight nurses work alongside uniformed DHS and ICE at numerous locations in Texas, Arizona, California, Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin and Louisiana. Candidates must be comfortable working in detention and flight settings.

Principle Accountabilities:

• Assumes responsibility as the sole medical provider of care for Federal detainees with stable, unstable, and complex medical conditions.
• Independently develops and implements a comprehensive plan to meet the actual and anticipated medical needs of detainee (client) and aircraft crew.
• Schedules Registered Nurses for flight missions based on air frame type and destination.
• Anticipates and acquires resources needed for routine and unexpected medical incidents, including medical emergencies in flight.
• Responsible for performing a variety of complex tasks without the benefit of close guidance.
• Independently establishes criteria, formulates approaches, and evaluates efforts.
• Proper judgment is required to prevent delays in service provision, avoid adverse impact on the health status of individuals and the population served, and reduce waste efforts and resources.
• Review patient information while ensuring compliance with established protocols for the transportation of detainees by air.
• Provide oversight to registered nurses during flight operations.

• Provide complex and comprehensive nursing care for adult and children medical patients. 
• Approves and validates TBRONs for all missions to ensure billing and invoice accuracy.
• Verbal and written proficiency in English and Spanish is highly encouraged.
• Functional proficiency and ability to document patient-centered health care in the required electronic health record or electronic medical record, in the required format (narrative notes), in a timely manner, and in compliance with contract policy and guidance.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Must have exceptional customer service skills.
• Employees shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the job requirements, including ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment with limited supervision
• Excellent organizational, scheduling and prioritization skills.

Education:

• ASN or BSN from an accredited university is required, Unencumbered Registered Nurse License is required.

Qualifications:

• One (1) year of current experience as a Registered Nurse preferably with ICU or ER experience plus one (1) year of full time Flight Registered Nurse (RN) under this contract or previous nursing leadership experience.

• Current BLS certification is required, ACLS is a preferred certification.
• U.S. Passport is required and may be used as an I-9 verification document .
• The contractor’s credentials/qualifications will be evaluated against contract and Joint Commission, or equivalent, quality standards for training, education, and competency.
• Must be verbally proficient in both English and Spanish (waiverable).

Duty Hours / On-call Requirements 

• Generally speaking, Flights are scheduled a minimum of one week out. Show time to the flight line is a minimum of 60-90 minutes prior to wheels up (mission dependent, show times will be published by Site Lead personnel. 
• Generally, most flights leave early morning and return to the U.S. the same day. However, there are times when maintenance, refueling, or weather may cause paid delays at home or abroad.
• Flights canceled are non-compensable to flight nurses or crews. We strive to give as much notice as possible in the event of a flight delay or cancelation

• Site Leads are still required to fly missions occasionally or when staffing shortages demand.

• Location : El Paso, TX
• Exciting, fast-paced work environment, flight line to foreign country and return.
• Days / Nights schedule with occasional early and on-call duties. The are occasional early, or “red eye,” flights with show times of 12:00 a.m. (midnight) – 2:00 a.m.

Travel:

• Frequent travel by air to domestic and international locations will be a routine part of the job.
• Must possess a valid U.S. passport.

Physical Requirements :

• Must be able to fly, stand or sit for more than 8 hours per day.
• Must be willing to work overtime if necessary.
• Must be able to use an elevator or walk up and down stairs.
• Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and carry up to 10 feet.
• Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above and below shoulders.
• Must be able to read and interpret handwritten and typewritten print.
• Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
• Must be able to perform duties in an indoor or outdoor environment.
• Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation.
• Must undergo Urine Drug Screening (UDS).
• Must be a Citizen of the United States or legally authorized to work in the United States of America.
