Clinical Social Worker (40 Hour)

Introduction The Connecticut Department of Correction is seeking a highly motivated and experienced licensed Clinical Social Worker for the Osborn Correctional Institution in Somers, CT. Schedule: Monday–Friday 2:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m. with rotating weekend and holiday shifts. Clinical Social Workers provide a range of clinical and case management functions to individuals in custody. Key responsibilities include intake assessment, individual psychotherapy, crisis management, suicide risk assessment, case management services, and collaborative discharge planning with external support services. Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments Develop interdisciplinary treatment plans Conduct risk assessments Coordinate with community supports and treatment providers Engage in evidence‑based behavioral health services, including individual and group psychotherapy Provide care for a population with a full array of clinical diagnoses (mood, psychotic, personality disorders) Work as part of a multidisciplinary team including behavioral health clinicians, psychologists, psychiatrists, and medical & correctional professionals Purpose of the Job Class (Nature of Work) In a state agency behavioral health program as part of a multi‑disciplinary team at one or more locations, the Clinical Social Worker is accountable for independently providing clinical social work services. Examples of Duties Develop psychosocial assessments through clinical interviews with assigned clients and families considering developmental, social, cultural, substance abuse, psychological, environmental, and medical issues. Develop treatment plans including measurable objectives. Provide clinical treatment services such as triage, crisis intervention, individual, group, and/or family therapy, screening, and planning. Advocate and develop networks of social and clinical services to assist clients in meeting identified needs. Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of treatment plans and document treatment in clinical records. Complete reports in accordance with agency and accrediting bodies. Provide clinical supervision to Licensed Master Social Workers. Consult and collaborate with other behavioral health providers to improve delivery of services to clients. Provide forensic evaluations and court testimony as required. Maintain social work treatment standards as required. Participate in research projects. Perform related duties as required. Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements Knowledge of social work methodology, casework, group work, and community mobilization; family and interpersonal relationship dynamics; professional ethics; social, cultural, economic, medical, psychological, and legal issues influencing client behavior; mental illnesses and approaches to treatment. Interpersonal skills. Oral and written communication skills. Ability to devise and implement a treatment plan with measurable goals that address client needs. Ability to independently apply current psychiatric treatment modalities to address client needs. Minimum Qualifications Licensure as a clinical social worker in the State of Connecticut. Preferred Qualifications Correctional or forensic behavioral health treatment experience. Crisis intervention experience. Behavior management experience. Individual and group psychotherapy experience. Experience with criminal justice‑involved adults. Special Requirements Must possess and maintain a license to practice clinical social work pursuant to Sec. 20-195 (m‑z) of the Connecticut General Statutes. Must possess and maintain eligibility for participation in federal health care programs as defined in 42 U.S. c. 1320a‑7b(f). May be required to have knowledge of sign language and the ability to communicate with the deaf and hearing impaired for certain positions. May be required to have Spanish oral and written communication skills for certain positions. May be required to travel.
