Summary The Library Manager maintains a professionally operated library with a welcoming and helpful atmosphere in which caring is encouraged, reading is fostered, and knowledge may grow. The Library Manager partners with teachers and students in the pursuit of learning through the use of library media center materials and equipment. The Library Manager provides the appropriate learning atmosphere and activities designed to support the school’s instructional program. The Teacher fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by guiding, inspiring, and educating students in a loving, Christ- centered environment. The Teacher is to be immediately responsible to the principal for the carrying out of policies of the school and the Archdiocese of San Antonio as they relate to the function of the school, the classroom, and the immediate contact with students and parents. Additional duties include the Campus Advancement role that will support the mission and growth of Mount Sacred Heart Catholic School by assisting with admissions, enrollment, marketing, communications, fundraising, and community engagement. This position collaborates with school leadership, faculty, staff, students, families, and alumni to strengthen enrollment, promote the school, and support advancement initiatives. Position Responsibilities Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church Supports and adheres to the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees and policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others. Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information. Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory. Develop and promote the role of the library in the school Work closely with teaching staff to plan and deliver the information skills curriculum Promote the effective and efficient use of the library and library resources Work with teaching staff to take a strategic approach to cultivating a love of reading in children Manage the school library and library resources throughout the school. Select, acquire, maintain and withdraw library stock, ensuring a balance between subject and ability. Organize, catalogue and classify library resources, both electronic and print-base Supervise and train staff and pupil librarians working in the library Make the library attractive and accessible to all children and staff, including displays, guiding and publicity materials Keep the principal, staff and parents informed about the needs and development of the library and information service in the school Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of school’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, Department of Catholic Schools, and administrative regulations. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities. Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to DCS requirements Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s). Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process. Knowledge Knowledge of children's literature and children's resources to support the curriculum Knowledge and understanding of library and information skills Knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning, of educational issues Awareness of child development and the role of reading in the educational development of the child Requirements Minimum Qualifications Education High School diploma An Associate degree or sixty college hours preferred. Bachelor's degree and completion of the ABLE course (23.5 hours) Evidence of knowledge of library procedures, technical services, awareness of trends in children/young adult literature, material selections, appropriate selection of books, including quality children/young adult literature books, and basic reference skills. Evidence of proficient use of technology License and Credentials Reliable transportation Valid driver license Valid vehicle insurance Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening Must pass Texas DPS Fingerprint-based Applicant Clearinghouse screening Minimum Knowledge and Skills Substantial library experience, with experience of working with schools or with children Community links - Experience of liaising with local literacy events and promoting them in school Experience of organizing literacy and other events within school, e.g. visiting authors. Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team. Must have good written and verbal skills. Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Must support admissions, enrollment, and re-enrollment efforts. Knowledge of Marketing, communications, social media, and website platforms Alumni relations and donor engagement.
