Early Childhood Teacher

Position Summary This position will implement developmentally appropriate activities for children ages birth to five on an as-needed basis to support staff in their absence. It will comply with all relevant regulations, including those of the NC Division of Child Development, Early Head Start, and the UNC Horizons Program. The role includes supervising and interacting with children to maintain a safe, healthy, and nurturing learning environment, managing the physical environment by discarding dangerous items, and maintaining effective communication with parents and staff. Responsibilities Implement developmentally appropriate activities for children ages birth to five as needed. Ensure compliance with the NC Division of Child Development, Early Head Start, and UNC Horizons Program policies. Provide supervision and interaction with children to maintain a safe, healthy, and nurturing learning environment. Maintain the childcare center’s physical environment by discarding broken or dangerous toys and reporting hazards or replacement needs to the supervisor. Establish and maintain effective communication with parents, offering support, advice, and encouragement regarding their child’s goals, accomplishments, and overall well‑being. Communicate questions and concerns regarding Horizons and/or Sunrise Corner with other team members and appropriate supervisors. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related childcare experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Management Preferences Coursework in Early Childhood Development or a similar field.
