Registered Nurse First Assistant

The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) is a licensed professional who provides direct patient care in the perioperative setting by assisting surgeons during surgical procedures. This role requires advanced perioperative nursing skills, knowledge, and judgment acquired through formal instruction and supervised practice. The RNFA works under the surgeon's supervision in the Operating Room and Labor and Delivery Suite, ensuring patient safety and supporting surgical outcomes. Responsibilities:

• Assist the surgeon as a first assistant during surgical procedures in the Operating Room and Labor and Delivery Suite.
• Provide direct patient care in the perioperative environment, including preparation and management of surgical patients.
• Practice expanded perioperative nursing roles with advanced knowledge and skills.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure patient safety and optimal surgical outcomes.
• Maintain credentialing requirements through the medical staff office.
• Adhere to all surgical protocols, policies, and standards of care.

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse with the California Board of Registered Nursing.
• Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification.
• Current CPR certification.
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in perioperative nursing or surgical assisting.
• Credentialing through the medical staff office (6-8 week processing time).

• Experience working in Labor and Delivery surgical settings.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills within multidisciplinary surgical teams.
• Advanced perioperative nursing education or training beyond basic RN licensure.

• Must complete credentialing process through the medical staff office prior to full practice.
• Role requires working in high-acuity surgical environments including Operating Room and Labor and Delivery Suite.
• Adherence to strict perioperative protocols and patient safety standards is mandatory.

• Day shift assignment.
• Shift schedules determined by surgical department needs and case load.
• May require flexibility based on surgical schedules and emergencies.
