Paid Intern (Multiple Divisions & Locations)

SALARY: The hourly rate for this position is $20.00.

• This position is limited to a maximum of 35 hours per week, not to exceed 944 hours in a fiscal year.
• Interns are generally required to work a minimum of 10 hours per week.

INTERNSHIPS MAY BE AVAILABLE FOR SPRING, SUMMER, AND FALL 2026. Interns will perform a variety of clerical, administrative, supportive tasks, and customer service duties in connection with proceedings instituted before the Court. Interns may assist with data entry, information retrieval, filing, photocopying, and other back‑office support. Interns will gain broad insight into the court system and are expected to treat all personnel, clients, and members of the public with dignity, courtesy, and respect. Hours and days worked are flexible but must be between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM Monday through Friday, excluding State holidays. DIVISIONS AVAILABLE: Civil, Criminal, Criminal Pre‑Trial Services, Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action (EEO/AA), Family, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology (IT), Municipal, Operations/Jury, Court User Resource Center (CURC)/Ombudsman's Office, Probation (Child Support, Adult Supervision, Recovery Court), and Trial Court Administration. LOCATIONS AVAILABLE: Atlantic City, Mays Landing, and/or Cape May Court House.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist with answering phones, returning phone calls, and receiving and distributing voicemails. Contact and follow‑up with applicants, defendants, court users, and/or members of the public. Organize and scan paper files/filings by parties and upload scans into an electronic filing system. Perform special projects. Conduct research and research analysis. Perform computer‑related work. Collect and enter data. Provide customer service. Draft correspondences and memos. Observe client interviews and court proceedings. Attend community planning meetings. Assist staff and perform other duties as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

At least 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university pursuing a degree. For Criminal Pre‑Trial Services or Probation divisions, credit hours must be from a program in Behavioral or Social Sciences, or a related field. Unofficial College or University transcript must be included with your application. PHYSICAL ABILITY: Ability to perform work that requires climbing, prolonged standing, stretching, bending, reaching, and occasionally lifting and carrying supplies weighing 30–50 pounds or up to 75 pounds. DRIVER'S LICENSE: A valid New Jersey driver’s license is required only if operating a vehicle is necessary for essential duties. AUTHORIZATION TO WORK: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US under Department of Homeland Security regulations. BACKGROUND CHECK: Selected candidates must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of findings and actions taken. RESIDENCY LAW: All newly hired employees within one year must establish and maintain a principal residence in New Jersey. Exemptions may be granted on hardship or employer critical need.
