Elevator Service TechnicianStart Elevator, a fast-growing leader in the elevator services industry, is seeking an Elevator Service Technician to support our expanding operations in the New York and New Jersey markets.The Elevator Service Technician is responsible for performing advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and servicing of elevators and related equipment. This role ensures all equipment operates safely, reliably, and in compliance with New York and New Jersey state codes, local regulations, and OSHA standards.Key ResponsibilitiesDiagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems on elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters, and liftsPerform scheduled preventive maintenance and safety inspections in accordance with state and local code requirements (NYC DOB, NYS, NJ DCA as applicable)Conduct annual and periodic safety tests to ensure proper operation of all safety devicesRespond to service calls, including emergency repairs, and participate in on-call rotationMaintain accurate maintenance logs, inspection reports, and compliance documentationIdentify equipment deficiencies and recommend modernization, repair, or replacement solutionsEnsure all work is performed in compliance with company standards, union agreements (if applicable), and safety regulationsMaintain strong customer relationships and provide professional communication on job status and repairsQualifications & RequirementsEducation & LicensingHigh School Diploma or equivalent requiredValid Elevator Mechanic License required:New York: NY State or NYC Elevator Mechanic LicenseNew Jersey: NJ Elevator Mechanic LicenseCET (Certified Elevator Technician) certification preferred if not required by jurisdictionExperience & Skills5+ years of experience in elevator service, repair, or maintenanceStrong working knowledge of traction and hydraulic elevator systemsAbility to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprintsProficiency using diagnostic tools, electrical testing equipment, and standard hand/power toolsExperience with controllers (e.g., Otis, Schindler, TK, Dover, etc.) strongly preferredPhysical RequirementsAbility to climb ladders, work at heights, and navigate elevator shafts and pitsAbility to lift 75+ lbs. regularly and assist with heavier materials (up to 200 lbs.)Comfortable working in confined spaces and around moving mechanical equipmentAbility to bend, stoop, kneel, and stand for extended periodsWork EnvironmentWork performed in commercial buildings, construction sites, and mechanical spacesExposure to dust, grease, noise, and temperature extremesMay work in elevator pits, shafts, and machine roomsMust be available for overtime and emergency service callsBenefits and PerksFree Health Insurance for single coverage401(k) match towards your retirement accountTop Pay in the industryAdvancement Opportunities through our CET training program
