We're hiring for a writer-editor to lead the afternoons and evenings on our newsdesk. Why it matters : Reporting to our Executive Editor, the news writer-editor will play a critical role as part of the 24/7 nerve center for the newsroom. - We are after people with a “see it, write it” mentality who have a personal passion for news and a fast-twitch set of journalistic reflexes. - This is a job for the news junkies who “monitor the situation” for fun and want to do it for a living. - We operate at one cadence - do it right now - and are after people who marry a love of news with the thrill of being busy. - This is the ultimate “safe pair of hands” job — someone we can trust to both edit the work of others and write their own, too. Go deeper : The role comes with a range of responsibilities, including: - Real-time news surveillance - Quick-turn writing of spot news stories - Editing a wide variety of national news, from breaking stories across the national file to the occasional enterprise. - Monitoring developments on key stories and flagging them to experts Worthy of your time: Ideal candidates will have a get-stuff-done attitude, a strong sense of personal responsibility and urgency, and a passion for being on top of the news at all times. Some of the skills include: - Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with a team of journalists. - Writing and editing experience in a fast-paced news environment. - Demonstrated experience monitoring and activating on news.

- A belief in Smart Brevity as the core writing style of Axios. - Experience working across teams to produce quality content. - Demonstrated knowledge of the digital and social media landscape. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Willing to work afternoons/evenings (2pm-10pm ET Sunday-Thursday) Starting salary for this role is in the range of $70,000 - $110,000 and is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to location, work experience, and skills. This range does not include other compensation benefits. Axios' compensation philosophy takes into account cost of labor differentials across the country. Because this is a remote-optional job posting, this salary range takes into account all possible locations within the United States, but candidates will only be eligible for the salary range for their location. All team members are expected to actively develop AI literacy and use AI tools to enhance their productivity, creativity, and efficiency. We invest in ongoing learning to ensure every employee is equipped to responsibly and effectively integrate AI into their daily workflows.
