Senior UI/UX Designer

Malbon is looking for a Senior UI/UX Designer to join our team! This role will report to our VP, Digital and will be based at our Malbon HQ. Ideal candidates are self-directed and organized, and will have the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Location: Malbon HQ is based in Santa Monica, CA. We operate on a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week in-office. This role is not eligible for remote or relocation.

What You’ll Do

Conversion Rate Optimization & Analytics-Led Iteration

• identify friction across the web and app funnel (landing → PLP → PDP → cart → checkout → post-purchase) and design tested solutions
• Read and interpret analytics, heatmaps, session recordings, and A/B test results; translate findings into design hypotheses, variants, and measurable improvements
• Partner with Ecommerce, Growth, and Development teams to define success metrics for each design and report on outcomes; own the analytics read for design performance and adapt live designs based on the data
• Balance conversion goals with brand integrity, ensuring optimizations never dilute the experience

Brand-Forward Experience & Motion Design

• Design elevated, editorial-quality experiences across web (homepage, campaign landing pages, collection and product pages, storytelling modules) and the brand mobile app, expressing a premium fashion/lifestyle/golf brand consistently across desktop, mobile web, and app
• Own motion and interaction design for the site and app: micro-interactions, transitions, scroll-driven storytelling, product reveals, and video/animation integration
• Set and hold a high bar for taste, typography, art direction, and visual detail; act as the guardian of brand expression in the digital channel
• Build and evolve the site and app design system and component library in Figma so brand quality scales consistently across every page, screen, and release

Community & Engagement Experience

• Design the site's and app's community and engagement touchpoints: member/loyalty experiences, UGC and creator integrations, event and product-drop moments, reviews, editorial content, and personalization
• Create interaction points that turn shoppers into repeat participants in the brand and connect the digital experience to retail, events, and social channels

Development Partnership and Technical Capabilities

• Collaborate with front-end engineers and platform developers on our Shopify Liquid storefront and mobile app; understand coding, platform, and performance limitations and design creative solutions that work within or around them
• Deliver production-ready specs, prototypes, motion references, and documentation for engineering handoff; participate in design QA before and after release
• Prototype in code or AI-assisted tools where useful to validate ideas quickly and communicate motion and interaction intent precisely

Research, Innovation & Trend Intelligence

• Research digital experience innovation (fashion, luxury, sport, entertainment, tech, culture) and synthesize findings into opportunities that push the site experience forward
• Run lightweight user research, usability tests, and competitive audits; present insights and forward-looking experience concepts to leadership and cross-functional partners

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Design, Interaction Design, HCI, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• 6+ years of digital product / web and app design experience with at least 3 years in ecommerce or DTC, ideally for fashion, lifestyle, luxury, or sport brands
• A portfolio demonstrating shipped, brand-forward ecommerce experiences, motion/interaction design work, and measurable CRO outcomes. ( Portfolio required at application; case-study walkthrough required at interview )
• Hands-on experience partnering with front-end engineering on Shopify (Liquid theme development required; ability to operate in headless/composable architectures as well)
• Exceptional visual taste and craft: typography, layout, color, art direction, and attention to detail at the level expected of a premium brand
• Motion design proficiency: After Effects, Figma prototyping, Lottie/Rive, Jitter; ability to define motion principles and hand off implementable specs
• Expert in Figma and the Adobe Creative Suite; comfort with prototyping tools (Framer, Protopie) and AI-assisted design/prototyping tools
• Deep understanding of UX principles, responsive and mobile-first design, native iOS/Android app design patterns, information architecture, and WCAG accessibility standards
• Knowledge of HTML/CSS/JavaScript concepts, web performance, and platform constraints; able to hold technical conversations and find creative workarounds
• Fluency with analytics and experimentation tools (GA4, Hotjar/Contentsquare, Optimizely/Convert); ability to read data, form hypotheses, and iterate
• Strong understanding of ecommerce funnel best practices, and merchandising logic
• Excellent communication and presentation skills; able to present and defend design rationale to senior stakeholders and incorporate feedback constructively

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time position with an expected salary range of $130,000-$150,000. Compensation decisions are determined using a variety of job-related factors such as skill set, geographic location, market demands, experience, and education or certifications. If we extend an offer for employment, we will consider all individual qualifications.
