The program serves communities connected to the "Brown Five" cases across Kansas, South Carolina, Delaware, Virginia, and Washington, DC, engaging visitors, educators, and local partners in learning about this pivotal moment in American history. Guided by principles of historical integrity, public service, collaboration, and broad availability of educational resources, the program is committed to fostering informed dialogue, civic understanding, and meaningful community engagement. The AmeriCorps Position supports this mission by strengthening organizational capacity through the development of outreach materials, volunteer engagement systems, and educational curricula. The member will develop communication plans for staff to engage with the "Brown Five" communities to assist in their capacity building--whether that is to create new interpretive materials, such as historical research for text for signs, web pages, brochures, or tour plans.
