Job no: 528603 Work type: Instructional Faculty - Temporary/Lecturer Location: San José Categories: Unit 3 - CFA - California Faculty Association, Temporary, Part Time, Faculty - Engineering Position Overview The Mechanical Engineering department offers the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, with concentrations in Design, Mechatronics, and Thermal‑Fluid Sciences. The department emphasizes a hands‑on curriculum and active undergraduate and graduate research. Responsibilities Lecturers will teach their assigned courses effectively, maintain university‑policy office hours, and participate in the departmental peer‑review process. Full‑time faculty will assist lecturers in course development, including content and textbook selection. Lecturers are expected to use the Canvas LMS for course organization and to align all teaching with inclusive pedagogical practices that address the diverse needs of the student population. Required Qualifications Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline, or a bachelor’s degree plus at least five (5) years of substantial professional experience. Knowledge of the subject matter for the assigned discipline. Evidence of satisfactory achievement in prior academic work. Awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural student body. Compensation Salary ranges are based on qualifications and experience. Anticipated monthly rates for full‑time faculty are as follows: L‑A / Range 2 – $5,507 – $5,959 L‑B / Range 3 – $6,221 – $7,481 L‑C / Range 4 – $6,825 – $9,431 L‑D / Range 5 – $8,593 – $10,347 Part‑time rates are prorated. Three monthly payments are made per semester for full‑time academic year faculty. Employment Conditions Faculty employees must complete CSU employee training, including courses on discrimination, harassment, Title IX, and health and safety. Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in the United States and a satisfactory background check. Appointment is subject to budget and enrollment considerations.
