GENERAL SUMMARY AND POSITION PURPOSE
Applies health program guidelines to service tribal members with health needs. Works cooperatively with case managers, professionals, para-professionals on health-related projects with the goal of collectively improving the overall health of the Tribal community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or HiSET Equivalency.
Three (3) years of experience in an office or health care setting.
A combination of relevant education and related work experience may be considered.

DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinates patient care for medical referrals; collects information and support documentation necessary for determination of patient eligibility and availability of alternate medical resources.
Records and organizes patient and referral information for review; inputs and retrieves patient information into an applicable computer program.
Communicates and collaborates with health care providers to ensure patients medical information regarding referrals is correct.
Coordinates patient care by setting appointments with providers in accordance with guidelines; reminds patients of appointment times and assists patients with transportation arrangements as needed.
Follows up with patient and providers on scheduled appointments; documents outcome of scheduled work and obtains patient notes and forwards to providers.

Collaborates with external health care providers and professional staff in management of patient care.
Serve as a backup for direct patient transportation for medical or mental health appointments.
Identifies alternate medical resources available to patients, including Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans Administration benefits, Childrens Medical Services, disability programs, private insurance, Workers Compensation, state and voluntary health programs and any other applicable resource.
Provides general secretarial and clerical support for the Health office, including preparation of routine correspondence and organization and maintenance of files.
Prepares Alternate Resource Liability forms when appropriate for the recovery of medical costs resulting from third party negligence.
Ensures compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Maintains confidential information.
Performs other duties as assigned.


MINIMAL BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT AT JBCI
Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age
Must possess a valid drivers license and clean driving record
Must have reliable transportation
No felony or theft convictions
Must submit to a criminal background and fingerprint check in compliance with the Louisiana Child Protection Act (LA R.S. 15:5871.0) and Louisiana Adult Protection Services Law (LA R.S. 15:1501-1511)


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of traditional forms of government and tribal customs and traditions.
Knowledge of department organization, functions, objectives, policies and procedures.
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements, including
the Tribal Constitution; all existing and applicable codes, Executive Orders, and Council directives; and applicable federal and state laws regarding tribal operations and its' sovereigns, reservation boundaries, and jurisdictions.
Knowledge of billing requirements, Medicaid, Medicare, Workers compensation and other insurance programs.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs in a Windows environment.
Ability to provide effective customer service.
Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines.
Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
Ability to analyze situations and adopt appropriate courses of action.
Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with the public and co-workers.
Ability to make solid decisions and exercise independent judgment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to manipulate, touch, or grasp objects and materials; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The
employee occasionally is required to stand; walk; and lift up to 25 pounds. Close vision ability is required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is generally performed in an office setting with a moderate noise level. Evening and/or weekend work may be required. Tight time constraints and multiple demands are common. Travel may be required for training, meetings, conferences, presentations, and other events.

JBCI Administration Office in Trout, Louisiana, unless otherwise specified
