MRI Technologist

This position operates and prepares specialized equipment to perform magnetic imaging procedures. It applies the necessary technical judgment to obtain studies of acceptable diagnostic quality according to written protocols and the patients' needs. The technologist performs MRI imaging procedures. They position patients and associated coils to obtain optimum study results. Patient education relevant to specific imaging procedures is provided, informing the patient of the nature of the procedure and any specific instructions needed. All patient safety questionnaires are reviewed before introducing any patients into the MRI scan room. The technologist ensures all MRI images are appropriately labeled as specified by the department's standard operating procedures. Images are evaluated for technical acceptability, and they are transmitted to the PACS in a timely manner. The technologist ensures that all studies performed are completed in the Radiology Information System in a timely manner. The MRI room and equipment cleanliness is ensured at the start and end of the shift, including the removal of soiled or dirty linen. Patient-related documents are scanned as necessary. Supplies and accessories in the radiographic room are maintained as required. All required patient tracking information is accurately recorded into the Radiology Information System. Exams are scheduled into the Radiology Information System as needed. The supervisor or appropriate personnel are informed of needed repairs to equipment or unsafe conditions. The technologist assists the physician directly as required. In-patients are called for as needed. Related clerical duties are performed in the absence of support personnel. Safety standards are maintained by strictly adhering to safety guidelines to prevent the introduction of ferromagnetic material into the scan room. The technologist protects themselves, patients, and employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocols. Attendance at in-services and other professional development meetings is required. Licensure specific to the job is maintained in good standing, including adherence to applicable public health codes. Other relevant duties may be assigned as needed.
