Fitter Welder

This role focuses on welding and fitting metal components to fabricate and repair steel utility products such as electrical poles, substations, and related structures. The Fitter Welder uses MIG, flux core, and metal core welding processes, following layouts, blueprints, and work orders to produce high-quality structural welds in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Weld metal structural components together using arc welding processes, with a primary focus on metal core welding for utility poles and related structures.
• Interpret and work from blueprints, weld symbols, layouts, and written specifications to determine work requirements and the sequence of operations.
• Perform welding operations that require planning and layout of work, ensuring proper fit-up and alignment of structural steel components.
• Execute fillet welds in a 2G position using metal core, meeting established quality, safety, and structural integrity standards.
• Carry out welding on objects with moderate safety and load requirements while maintaining consistent weld quality in a single position.
• Fit and assemble structural components prior to welding, ensuring accurate measurements and proper joint preparation.
• Use an overhead crane to move pole shafts and other large steel components safely and efficiently.
• Gather and stage parts, materials, and hardware needed to complete assigned projects according to work orders.
• Follow established fabrication procedures for structural steel, including cutting, fitting, and tacking components before final welding.
• Participate in required assessments, including math, weld symbol, and weld performance tests, and apply the results to improve work quality.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to all safety policies, procedures, and personal protective equipment requirements.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules and support overtime needs when required.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience as a structural welder or fitter/welder in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
• Strong proficiency with MIG welding, flux core welding, and metal core welding processes.
• Ability to perform fillet welds using metal core in a 2G position to production and quality standards.
• Hands-on experience working with structural steel components and utility-related products.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and other technical drawings and specifications.
• Competence in fitting and fabrication tasks, including measuring, aligning, and preparing joints for welding.
• Capability to operate an overhead crane safely for moving pole shafts and heavy steel components.
• Solid basic math skills to support layout, measurement, and fit-up work, and to pass a math assessment.
• Ability to complete and pass weld symbol and weld performance tests as part of the hiring process.
• Willingness and ability to work a weekend day shift (Friday through Sunday, 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) with overtime opportunities during weekdays.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in fabrication of steel electrical poles, substations, or similar utility structures.
• Familiarity with TIG welding as an additional welding process is beneficial.
• Comfort working from work orders and written specifications in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, structurally sound welds.
• Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a production team.
• Demonstrated reliability and flexibility to support extended shifts and overtime as needed.

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing facility focused on producing steel utility poles and related structures. The role involves working on a weekend day shift from Friday through Sunday, 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with overtime offered during weekdays when needed. You will work in an industrial setting with structural steel, overhead cranes, and a variety of arc welding equipment, including MIG, flux core, and metal core processes. The environment requires adherence to safety procedures, use of appropriate personal protective equipment, and the ability to work around heavy machinery, large steel components, and active fabrication operations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tulsa, OK.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.24 - $29.35/hr.
