Tax Accounting Specialist

Location 373 S High Street, Columbus, OH, 43215, United States Job Description The Franklin County Auditor’s Office is seeking a Tax Accounting Specialist to join the Real Estate team. Responsibilities Research taxpayer refunds to ensure compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, including verifying payment details, reviewing affidavits, locating new addresses for transferred properties, validating vendor information, researching voided/reissued checks, and investigating tender payments or returned checks. Perform tax adjustments for real estate and manufactured homes based on various determinations (e.g., BOR, BTA, exemptions, abatements, TIFs, forfeitures), recalculating tax, penalty, and interest charges, and handling adjustments for split, vacated, platted parcels, and Form 57 requests. Process refunds in MUNIS by generating reports, keying refund data, releasing batches, organizing reports, balancing available funds, submitting void requests, preparing spreadsheets for the Treasurer, and researching unclaimed checks. Provide taxpayer support via walk‑ins, emails, and phone calls, addressing inquiries about taxes, special assessments, and annexations, and coordinating with other departments to improve efficiency. Administer special assessments, coordinating with political subdivisions, developers, and agencies to manage public improvements, nuisance abatements, and other ORC‑permitted charges, setting up assessment projects, inputting charges, balancing accounts, and providing accurate reports. Qualifications Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration or a related field; two (2) or more years of related experience and/or training; or any combination of training, education, or experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
