RF Engineering Technician

Overview SSI is seeking an RF Engineering Technician with a broad range of experience in communications systems to work onsite in San Diego, CA (Topside). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to perform with self‑driven autonomy to meet system engineering objectives. The work will be generally performed in designated facilities and the candidate will benefit from a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off. This position will be available November 2025. Responsibilities At a high level, this position involves development, execution, and maintenance of a compliance test program for MUOS, a WCDMA‑based satellite system. As part of a larger team supporting a DoD organization, the candidate will develop and execute a certification test program spanning technical, functional, and performance requirements. The role will also require becoming well‑versed in a vast quantity of information and, over time, growing toward the Sr. Systems Engineer level, working with large organizations, third‑party vendors, hands‑on test equipment, live and test systems, security concepts, diagrams and models, configuration management, troubleshooting, and, at times, reverse‑engineering. Qualifications 2+ years of experience in a System Engineering or System Analyst position, focusing on communications systems and protocols Bachelor's in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related field is desired Experience supporting MUOS Waveform and MUOS MIL‑STD Development, Testing, and Engineering, or similar knowledge of Military Satellite Waveform, Military SATCOM, and MIL‑STD Development & Testing & Engineering Basic understanding of security principles (COMSEC equipment, key management, PKI) Basic understanding of networking principles (IP addresses, basic routing protocols, Linux and Windows, subnets, default routes, etc.) Junior‑to‑mid level scripting skills in Perl, Python, Bash/Shell, or JavaScript Knowledge of communication principles (ideally wireless, cellphone technology such as 3G/4G‑LTE/5G or WCDMA, CDMA, signal processing) Familiarity with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and noise generators Experience with cellular technology highly desired Comfortable with Microsoft tools: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook, Teams Excellent communication skills, able to summarize work, write reports, and interface with internal and external customers MUST possess an active Secret clearance SSI is committed to non‑discrimination and equal employment opportunity.
