The Role The Project Manager is responsible for the execution and delivery of gas utility capital projects from engineering handoff through construction and closeout. The Project Manager is accountable for project scope, cost, and schedule, with Engineering responsible for product scope, technical decisions, and design authority. The Project Manager partners closely with Engineering as the primary internal customer, translating product scope into executable schedules, cost forecasts, procurement plans, and construction activities. The PM drives project delivery, removes obstacles, coordinates with resources, manages contractors, delivers forecasts and schedules, and resolves execution issues to support Engineering’s priorities. This role collaborates with Engineering, Construction PM, Gas Operations, Procurement, and external partners to ensure projects stay on track, on budget, and aligned with engineering scope while meeting safety, regulatory, and quality requirements. The Project Manager applies standard project controls, reporting, and forecasting to support consistent execution and visibility while maintaining a focus on delivery and Engineering alignment. Day to Day Serve as a self-directed, execution-focused Project Manager, partnering with Engineering as the primary internal customer to move engineered scope through design, construction, and closeout. Translate engineering deliverables into executable schedules, cost forecasts, and resource plans, aligning contractors, materials, and internal activities. Drive project delivery, holding team members and contractors accountable for tasks, deliverables, quality, and timelines. Maintain ownership of detailed schedule and forecast management, developing execution schedules aligned with Engineering milestones and addressing impacts from design evolution, sequencing, procurement, or field conditions. Own cost forecasting, accuracy, and variance management, engaging Engineering, Purchasing, Contractors, and other stakeholders to maintain current forecasts. Manage project communications, defining information needs and channels between internal and external stakeholders, ensuring timely decision-making and issue resolution. Communicate impacts to scope, schedule, and cost from baseline changes; support formal Change Requests per PMO requirements. Coordinate contractors, vendors, and consultants to ensure work aligns with engineered scope of work and approved methods. Oversee transmittals and submittals for proper documentation and timely progression; partner with Engineering during RFI review to identify and manage impacts. Identify and manage project delivery risks, defining mitigation actions and driving resolution to prevent delays or cost impacts. Create and manage project KPIs, contingency plans, risk registers, and mitigation plans. Maintain alignment with Engineering on execution sequencing, constructability, and delivery risks. Operate effectively in a fast-moving and sometimes ambiguous environment, progressing even when processes are not fully defined. Demonstrate flexibility and sound judgment under schedule and field pressure, adjusting execution plans as needed. Facilitate focused execution meetings and provide status updates tied to delivery, risks, and forecasted outcomes. Use NWN PMO project management best practices to track progress, milestones, forecasts, and commitments. Provide clear guidance to project team members on tasks, deadlines, and expectations, addressing performance concerns when needed. Drive process improvements and PMO best practices to enhance project efficiency. Conduct site visits as needed to support projects, including travel to construction sites. Qualifications — What You Bring Demonstrated success delivering construction or capital projects with multiple concurrent workstreams, contractors, and stakeholders. 7+ years of project management experience, preferably in construction, industrial, utility, or energy sector. Bachelor's degree in engineering, project management, business, or related field. Working knowledge of engineering deliverables, construction contracts, and execution models, including RFPs and EPC methods. Ability to develop and maintain detailed execution schedules and accurate cost forecasts, translating milestones into construction plans. Ability to engage Engineering, Procurement, and contractors to maintain schedule and forecast accuracy. Ability to partner in an engineering-led delivery model, recognizing Engineering as the technical authority while managing execution, cost, schedule, and risk. Strong communication, alignment, follow-up, and accountability across internal teams and external contractors. Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Interpersonal and negotiation skills to engage and align stakeholders with competing priorities without formal authority. Ability to operate in a fast-paced, execution-focused environment with changing priorities. Analytical skills, problem-solving, and attention to detail. Familiarity with environmental regulations and safety standards related to gas projects. Proficiency in project management software (MS Project, Primavera, or similar). Ability to learn and adapt to Company software systems for project management and reporting. Must be local to Oregon or Washington and willing to conduct site visits within NW Natural Service territory. Additional Requirements (Preferred) Experience with permitting, inspection, construction management, utility environments preferred. Experience in construction management, owner's representative roles, or EPC project delivery preferred. PMP certification or equivalent preferred. Annual Target Incentive Level 2: 9.5% target; Level 3: 12.0% target. Targets are calculated using eligible earnings during plan year participation and may range from 0% - 200% of target.
