Overview Position Title: Visual Examination Operator (TRU Waste Characterization)
Location: Lawerence Livermore National Laboratory
Schedule: 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM Overview:
Los Alamos Technical Associates, Inc. (LATA) is seeking a qualified Visual Examination Operator I to support waste characterization and certification activities under our newly awarded contract with the Central Characterization Program (CCP). This role is essential to ensuring the safe and compliant handling of Contact-Handled (CH) Transuranic (TRU) and CH Mixed TRU Waste generated from national defense operations. The successful candidate will contribute to the integrity of the waste certification process through detailed visual inspections and strict adherence to safety protocols. Responsibilities • Conduct thorough visual examinations of waste designated for transport to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP), following established operational procedures.
• Maintain qualifications as CCP VEO1/VEO2.
• Accurately complete and review documentation related to TRU waste characterization.
• Apply knowledge of Acceptable Knowledge (AK), Data Quality Objectives, and relevant compliance standards.
• Operate safely in radiological environments using appropriate PPE and specialized equipment (e.g., radiation detectors, leak testers).
• Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and external stakeholders to resolve technical and operational issues.
• Uphold all training, procedural, and safety requirements to maintain qualification status. Qualifications • Ability to obtain Government Q-Level Security Clearance
• High school diploma or GED with at least two (2) years of relevant experience.
• Familiarity with LLNL site and security protocols is a plus.
• Experience in radiological labs or facilities preferred.
• Strong computer proficiency and ability to input and manage critical data.
• Ability to follow detailed procedures and safety guidelines.
• Willingness to perform duties while wearing PPE such as gloves, respirators, and radiation badges.
• Flexibility to take on varied assignments as needed. Pay Range USD $38.30 - USD $38.30 /Hr.
