Theology Teacher

St. Catherine of Siena Academy is an all-girls Catholic high school in Wixom, Michigan. Our mission is to transform the culture by inspiring young women to discover and develop their feminine genius-their unique identity and gifts as women created in the image of God.

The Theology Teacher plays an integral role in the religious formation and intellectual development of our students. The ideal candidate is a practicing Catholic who is committed to the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church and to the vocation of Catholic education. The Theology Teacher will teach introductory and advanced theology courses, helping students encounter and understand the Catholic faith through Sacred Scripture, Moral theology, Church history, Theology of the Body, Prayer, and the Sacramental life of the Church. Through rigorous academic inquiry, thoughtful discussion, and the integration of faith and reason, the teacher will help students understand, articulate, and live their Catholic faith.

As a full-time faculty member, the Theology Teacher contributes to the development of the theology curriculum, supports the Catholic identity of the Academy, and participates actively in the spiritual and communal life of the school.

ESSIENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan and deliver engaging, rigorous theology instruction consistent with Catholic teaching, the mission of St. Catherine of Siena Academy, and established curriculum standards.
• Teach courses within the Academy's theology curriculum, which may include Sacred Scripture, Theology of the body, Christology, sacramental theology, moral theology, Church history, Apologetics, and related areas.
• Help students develop a strong understanding of the Catholic faith and the ability to articulate and defend Catholic teaching thoughtfully and charitably.
• Foster the integration of faith and reason through thoughtful engagement with theological, philosophical, ethical, cultural, and contemporary questions.
• Create a classroom environment that promotes intellectual curiosity, respectful dialogue, spiritual growth, and a deeper relationship with Christ.
• Encourage students to recognize their dignity and vocation as women created in the image and likeness of God, consistent with the Academy's mission and understanding of the feminine genius.
• Assess student learning and communicate regularly with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress.
• Collaborate with faculty in the ongoing development of a coherent and engaging theology curriculum.
• Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, school-sponsored events, and the sacramental and spiritual life of the Academy, including Masses, prayer services, retreats, Eucharistic Adoration, and other faith-formation opportunities.
• Serve as a positive witness to the Catholic faith and contribute to a school culture rooted in Christ, Truth, Virtue, Prayer, and Charity.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and life of St. Catherine of Siena Academy.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Theology, Catholic Theology, Religious Studies, Religious Education, or a related field; master's degree preferred.
• Practicing Catholic who is committed to the teachings and sacramental life of the Catholic Church and able to serve as a faithful witness to the Catholic identity of St. Catherine of Siena Academy.
• Strong academic preparation in Catholic theology, including familiarity with Sacred Scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and Catholic doctrine
• Demonstrated experience teaching theology, religious studies, or related subjects at the high school or college level; 3+ years of relevant teaching experience preferred.
• Strong classroom management, instructional, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to engage high school students in meaningful theological, philosophical, moral, and cultural discussions.
• Ability to present Catholic teaching accurately, faithfully, and in an engaging and accessible manner.
• Commitment to the mission and philosophy of St. Catherine of Siena Academy and to the intellectual and spiritual formation of young women.
• Ability to use educational technology effectively, including Google Workspace and online learning platforms.
• Flexible, collaborative, professional, and supportive of a dynamic Catholic high school environment.

• Stand and teach for extended periods, including class periods of up to 80 minutes.
