Truck Consultant

Summary This position focuses on all service vehicles of all classes and supports customers to secure the right vehicle for the job. The role requires strong technical knowledge of Class 1–3 trucks, commercial trailers, and miscellaneous equipment. Once vehicle specifications are defined, the employee collaborates with Account Management, Account Executives and Vehicle Operations to deliver a road‑ready vehicle. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Work with existing clients and potential prospects, applying technical knowledge to identify vehicle requirements and recommend custom service body vehicle solutions. Provide technical expertise to build vehicle/equipment specifications and submit quotes to suppliers. Work concurrently on one or more portfolio projects of moderate complexity. Collaborate with OEMs and the supply chain to facilitate a competitive bid process that ensures customer requirements are delivered accurately and cost‑effectively. Act as a technical liaison between client, account management and suppliers to resolve issues or design solutions. Support company quality initiatives, including lean six sigma methodology. Train new hires in technical training, instruction and guidance within the area of responsibility. Participate in client visits and deliver presentations when asked. Attend supplier visits and training sessions. Maintain strong working knowledge of truck and equipment models and specifications, supplier network, services, lead times and performance. Map vehicle order workflow to ensure satisfactory results. Understand up‑fitters and bailment pools and their inventory. Follow internal operating procedures and federal & state emission standards, as well as laws affecting truck and equipment operation. Utilize all available systems to plan, manage and effectively work client orders. Provide support to other members of the truck team and achieve internal operating metrics. Support 100% client retention efforts. Travel to field sites up to 10% of the time. Other duties may be assigned. Skills and Competencies Mechanical experience and aptitude. Knowledge of Class 1–3 trucks and equipment plus a variety of aftermarket configurations. Working knowledge of chassis acquisitions, OEMs, dealers and bailment pools. Experience specifying and quoting Class 1–3 trucks and equipment. Ability to apply lean principles to daily processes. Effective presentation skills and ability to explain conclusions. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills with a detail orientation. Professionalism in all activities. Good verbal and written communication skills. Intermediate Microsoft Word and Excel skills. Effective relationship‑building skills. Technical Qualifications Communication expertise – conveys information clearly across media. Computer expertise – basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Access, Word, Excel, Outlook; use of V‑lookup, pivot tables and Access queries. Decal expertise – installation, sourcing, kitting, templating and workflows; experience with fleet graphics, wraps, stickers and decals. Logistics expertise – basic knowledge of transportation industry, dealers and upfit suppliers. Process expertise – strong knowledge of internal procedures and operating systems. Truck expertise – mechanical knowledge of Class 1–8 trucks; experience in automotive repair and/or upfitting is a plus. Educational Requirements 1–3 years of related work experience with light‑duty trucks, vans, aftermarket truck applications (service bodies, hoists, etc.) and equipment such as backup cameras, ladders, toolboxes, snow ploughs. High school diploma or equivalent required. Certification in an automotive or engineering discipline preferred. Experience specifying and quoting trucks and equipment. TMI accreditations, Course1 & 2 preferred. Physical Demands Requires speaking, hearing, seeing, use of hands and fingers for computer keyboard, phone and frequent movement; ability to interact with internal and external customers and to maneuver around vehicles with minimal physical effort. Benefits Pay range: $79,100–$110,800. Base salary plus annual incentive plan based on company and individual performance.
