Research Assistant I - Cardiovascular Biology

Summary

Step into a hands-on role as a Research Assistant I and help drive groundbreaking discoveries! You will be an integral part of the Laboratory for Translational Therapeutics, passionately supporting our mission to develop new gene and cell therapies for treating cardiovascular disease. In this dynamic position, you will be at the forefront of exciting science, performing rodent survival surgeries including myocardial infarction induction to model heart failure and support the development and testing of novel gene and cell-based therapeutic strategies. You will take ownership of your research, directly shaping our success through the expert planning, execution, and occasional supervision of vital projects centered on rodent cardiovascular surgical models and post-operative animal care.

Job Duties

• Plans, directs and conducts research experiments.
• Performs survival surgical procedures on mice and rats, including myocardial infarction (MI) induction and related cardiovascular surgical models.
• Monitors post-operative recovery and animal welfare.
• Maintains accurate animal research records including procedure logs, husbandry documentation, and IACUC-required reporting.
• Performs euthanasia and tissue/sample collection per approved protocols.
• Evaluates and analyzes data.
• May conduct literature searches and summarize information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
• Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
• Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
• Two years of relevant research experience with surgical models of cardiovascular disease in rodents, and post-surgical assessment using echocardiography and/or IVIS imaging.
