divh2Special Education Aide/h2pAssist the special education teacher to provide for the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities. Assist in the implementation of classroom programs, personal care needs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction. Work under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher./ppQualifications:/ppEducational Aide I Paraprofessional Certificate/ppHigh School Diploma or GED/ppAbility to work well with children with disabilities/ppAbility to follow verbal and written instructions/ppEffective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills/ppExperience working with children/students, parents, or persons with disabilities/ppMajor Responsibilities and Duties:/polliMaintain confidentiality/liliKeep accurate records of students with disabilities and furnish to appropriate personnel in a timely manner/liliAssist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus duty, playground, and community/liliAssist teacher in maintaining, copying, transferring confidential folders as required/liliAssist special needs students with individual tasks as may be required including, but not limited to, transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, positioning, feeding, bathroom needs, personal hygiene/liliAssist in managing the behavior of students and crisis intervention/liliAssume responsibility for learning and adapting to each students special medical, physical, communicative, emotional, and safety needs through in-service and/or teacher direction/liliWork with and/or prepare materials for individual students or small groups to develop skills through instructional activities under teacher direction/liliKeep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students/liliUphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and legal/local board policies/liliParticipate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned/li/olpEquipment Used:/ppCopier, facsimile, computer/peripherals, adaptive equipment/ppSupervisory Responsibilities: None/ppWorking Conditions:/ppMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem-solving skill while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. May be required to lift or transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities.
