Analytics Engineer, Revenue Cycle, Full time - Day

We're seeking an Analytics Engineer, Revenue Cycle to build and maintain the data infrastructure required for hospital billing and revenue cycle reporting in a complex academic medical center. This role transforms raw billing, claims, and payment data from multiple source systems into clean, reliable, well-modeled datasets that analysts and stakeholders can trust — bridging the gap between raw data engineering and business-facing reporting.

Essential Functions

Data Modeling & Standardization

• Develop and maintain data models (star schema/dimensional models) that support consistent, reusable reporting across the revenue cycle

• Build and optimize semantic models, views, and datasets that power dashboards and self-service reporting (e.g. CPT reimbursement, underpayments, service line analysis)

• Define and standardize business logic and metric definitions so they're calculated consistently across reports

Advanced Analytics

• Explore and implement AI-powered and predictive analytics tools to identify trends, anomalies, and risk patterns in billing and payment data (e.g., denial and underpayment patterns, unexpected payor behavior, downgrades)

• Partner with stakeholders to build highly effective data analytics tools that improve self service reporting and analyst productivity

Data Pipeline & Infrastructure

• Design, build, and maintain data pipelines that ingest billing, claims, denials, and payment data from multiple source systems (e.g. Epic, Blue Cross Blue Shield, clearinghouses)

• Monitor and troubleshoot pipeline failures, performance issues, and data anomalies

Data Quality & Governance

• Implement data quality checks, validation rules, and reconciliation processes to catch discrepancies before they reach reporting

• Document data lineage, transformation logic, and metric definitions for transparency and auditability

Collaboration & Support

• Partner with report analysts to understand reporting needs and ensure underlying data structures support them efficiently

• Support ad hoc data/report requests and root-cause investigations into revenue cycle reporting discrepancies

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics or a related field. Master’s Degree preferred

• 3+ years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or a similar role required

• Strong Programming and data analysis skills including SQL, Python, statistical analysis and predictive modeling required

• Experience building data models and working with cloud data platforms (e.g., Azure, Snowflake, Databricks, or similar) required

• Experience with a modern data transformation approach (e.g., data build tools (dbt), stored procedures, or similar) required

• Experience integrating and reconciling data across multiple, disparate source systems required

• Experience with data visualization and self-service analytics enablement using PowerBI or Tableau required

• Familiarity with hospital revenue cycle concepts (charge capture, claims, denials, A/R, payer mix) — Epic experience preferred

License or Certifications:

• Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate Certification preferred

• Other Microsoft SQL/BI, Epic, Tableau or related certifications also considered

Skills:

• Must have strong issue tracking and resolution skills, and the ability to cope in a fast-paced environment

• Must be able to prioritize, organize, and assess work to meet aggressive deadlines

• Must have experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, Visio and Powerpoint

• Capable of working well in a diverse, multi-disciplinary team and successfully interacting with others at all levels of the organization, including remote teams

• Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, and effective presentation skills

• Ability to plan and facilitate meetings with diverse participants

• Ability to maintain a professional attitude and demeanor in both normal and pressure situations

• Proven skills in problem solving

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
