Job Description

The Housekeeping Staff performs varying degrees of complexity in cleaning processes. Demonstrates proficiency related to daily service, check-out, deep cleaning, and special project cleaning assignments based on Lodging program cleaning standards. Responsibilities include vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping floors; dusting, polishing, cleaning, and moving furniture; removing trash and placing it in dumpsters; and replacing liners. The staff also places the proper number of amenities in rooms, including consumables, linen, kitchen, and bathroom items. They remove and replace bed linen, inspect mattresses and pull-out sofas, and move/re-position beds upon guest checkout, weekly, or at a guest's request. Cleaning tasks extend to walls, doors, ceilings, fans, light fixtures, exterior of air vents, windows, sills, tracks, blinds, and curtains. They clean coffee makers, ice buckets, beverage kits, refrigerators, stove tops, cookware, utensils, cutlery, cups/glasses, plates, sinks, counters, ovens, ranges, cupboards, drawers, and microwaves, ensuring proper programming of their respective clocks/time. Dishwashers are ensured to be clean and in working condition. Vanities, mirrors, hardware, cabinets/shelving, toilets, bath tubs/shower stalls, tile, and bathroom exhaust fans are cleaned, and bathroom terry and linens, including shower curtains, are replaced. Irons, ironing boards, luggage racks, and male/female hangers are cleaned and ensured to be in proper functionality. Washers and dryers are cleaned and ensured to be operational. In-room guest directories, TVs, alarm clocks, and in-room phones are cleaned, programmed, and ensured to be in working condition. Common area spaces, including vending rooms, ice machines, laundry rooms, elevators, break rooms, walkways, corridors, stairwells, office spaces, lounges, and storerooms, are cleaned. Deep cleaning is performed as required by program standards, including defrosting refrigerators, cleaning windows, replacing and/or cleaning drapes, moving furniture, cleaning normally hidden areas, carpet cleaning, cleaning walls/woodwork, and other such tasks. Linens are counted, sorted, inspected, and prepared for operational use. Blood Borne Pathogen criteria are applied to determine potential safety concerns related to contaminated linens, and appropriate NGIS protocols are applied during daily service activity. Maintenance requests for broken, defective, or in need of replacing items are completed. The position requires considerable standing, bending, kneeling, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, stretching, and climbing. Moderately strenuous physical labor is required, including unassisted lifting, moving, and carrying of supplies and equipment weighing up to 45 pounds, with assisted lifting, moving, and carrying in excess of 45 pounds possible. Climbing/descending stairs and properly placed stepladders may be required. Work is primarily performed indoors with adequate heat, light, and ventilation, but some facilities may require exposure to outdoors, resulting in exposure to nature and weather conditions. The incumbent may be exposed to dirt, disagreeable odors, and skin/eye irritants from strong cleaning solutions used in household cleaners. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided and required to be utilized for safety reasons. Basic, routine maintenance on vacuum cleaners is performed by cleaning all areas and replacing filters as necessary. The cleanliness, inventory, and organization of housekeeping and linen carts are maintained. Any damages or valuables left out in the open by guests are reported to the Supervisor. Any unsafe, illegal, or suspicious activity is reported to the Supervisor. Professional interaction with guests and team members is maintained, displaying a positive attitude, utilizing effective communication skills, and assisting guests with hotel facilities and information about on base and local attractions. Lost and found items are identified and communicated with the front desk for retrieval. Key control for assigned keys is maintained, and any issues are reported immediately to the Supervisor.
