Lead Application Engineer

Salary: $125,000 - 150,000 per year Requirements:

• We require a bachelors degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• We need 5+ years of enterprise application or ERP development experience, including 3+ years of hands-on D365 F&O development or architecture experience.
• Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations Apps Developer Associate or Solution Architect Expert is preferred.
• A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required qualifications and skills will be considered.
• A valid drivers license is required for occasional travel to our Sonoma County and Mendocino County retail store and distribution center locations.
• We are looking for expert-level proficiency in X++, C#, and D365 F&O architecture, including extension models and performance tuning.
• We need the ability to design cross-system architectures and critical integrations across ERP, eCommerce, and the data platform.
• We value demonstrated ownership of release lifecycles, including environment strategy and Azure DevOps pipeline standards.
• We need the ability to establish and enforce coding, code review, documentation, and change-control standards across a team.
• Working knowledge of security, compliance, and performance requirements for ERP customizations is required.
• We need experience evaluating vendor-supplied software and making build-versus-buy recommendations.
• Experience leading Agile delivery with internal and partner development teams, including standups, backlog prioritization, and iteration planning, is important.
• We value demonstrated mentorship and the ability to set technical direction for other engineers.
• Strong communication skills are needed to translate technical concepts into clear, business-friendly language.
• The ability to stay composed and communicate clearly with stakeholders while managing production incidents under pressure is required.

• We own architecture-level D365 F&O customizations, interdepartmental system design, and critical cross-system integrations.
• We diagnose and resolve the most complex production incidents through code, configuration, or data fixes, using root cause analysis and corrective action.
• We serve as the primary on-call escalation point for major production issues.
• We provide architecture and integration oversight across our broader application portfolio, including eCommerce, Power BI/data platform, Power Platform, and third-party applications.
• We evaluate vendor-supplied software products and recommend new or replacement solutions.
• We own the D365 release lifecycle, including deployment strategy, environment management, and Azure DevOps pipeline standards.
• We set and continuously improve standards for coding, code review, documentation, change control, support methods, and technical processes.
• We ensure customizations and development work meet security, compliance, and performance standards.
• We develop automation to reduce manual and repetitive work.
• We provide day-to-day technical guidance and mentorship to Application Engineer I and II team members.
• We drive cross-functional collaboration with business stakeholders, vendors, and technology teams on complex technical requirements, projects, and incidents.
• We respond to Technical Work Order requests and work to meet team response and individual resolution SLA targets.
• We lead standups with development partners and set technical priorities.
• We collaborate with Microsoft Support and third-party implementation partners on complex technical issues.
• We support scheduled off-hours work such as code release deployments and respond to emergency after-hours pages according to policy.

We are Friedmans Home Improvement, and this Lead Application Engineer role is based at our headquarters in Petaluma, CA. The position centers on Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations while also providing technical ownership across our broader business application portfolio, including Sana Commerce, Power BI and data platforms, Power Platform, and integrated third-party applications. This is a non-exempt role with full-time and part-time scheduling options available Sunday through Saturday between 6:00am and 9:00pm to support business needs.
