Supplier Quality Engineer

Job Summary Supplier Quality Engineer Belong, Connect, Grow, with KBR! We are currently seeking a talented Supplier Quality Engineer at our Middletown, CT facility. The role requires experience performing audits, analyzing supplier processes and products, conducting root cause analysis for issues with parts, driving corrective actions, and making decisions to reject or stop defective parts. Responsibilities include driving quality for assigned suppliers, implementing quality plans, selecting suppliers through qualification processes, owning supplier results, and utilizing supplier scorecards to drive improvements. The role also involves conducting supplier audits, ensuring compliance, driving improvement plans, visiting suppliers on site, and supporting key gaps in quality performance. Roles And Responsibilities Maintain the supplier rating system, which defines the total cost of ownership of products procured from suppliers. Implement and maintain a supplier approval system that qualifies suppliers to do business with the company and meets varied purchase order requirements. Evaluate lean initiatives at supplier facilities and assist in implementing lean as necessary. Ensure procurement can issue purchase orders to qualified and approved suppliers and that all requirements are included in the purchase orders. Manage the supplier corrective action system to identify and correct supplier problems in a timely manner. Coordinate Supplier Manufacturing Readiness Reviews and manage Supplier Requests for Variance (when applicable). Conduct capability assessments that verify supplier qualifications, travel to assigned suppliers, and lead multiple projects to completion. Act as the primary interface between the company and suppliers in resolving technical problems and performing source control inspections. Coordinate with functional departments and ensure that problems are resolved in a timely manner. Aid in determining the responsibility of discrepant hardware already received into the company and issued to the shop or shipped to customers. Establish and maintain effective communications with other operating departments and suppliers to facilitate problem identification/resolution and compliance with specification requirements for supplier control. Prepare and maintain reports such as supplier performance, survey results, specification compliance, corrective actions, etc. Conduct audits, analyze defect trends, and monitor supplier performance and response times to ensure production continuity. Manage supplier corrective action reports and develop and implement supplier quality‑related training programs for the quality and sourcing teams. Interface with cell managers to assure all applicable inspections/tests are performed and to ensure that only acceptable hardware is received into the company. Collect and analyze supplier quality and delivery data; develop and implement cost‑effective intervention plans to improve quality and on‑time delivery ratings. Maintain a list of approved suppliers and monitor suppliers for continuous improvements. Ability to travel for supplier visits. Basic Qualifications Broad knowledge of a general technical field such as electrical, mechanical, or industrial engineering. BS degree in related engineering field. Thorough understanding of AS9100/ISO 9000 regulations certification process. Fully onsite. 5+ years’ work experience in Supplier Quality and Aerospace. Detail‑oriented, good communication skills, critical thinking, methodical, and organized. US citizenship is required for this role. Preferred Qualifications Ability to travel up to 25% of the time to suppliers. Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or technical discipline preferred with applicable experience. Qualified auditor to industry requirements for AS9100 and two or more special processes. Knowledge of NADCAP and other special processes applicable to client sites and suppliers, such as heat treat, welding, nonconventional machining, chemical processing, and surface enhancement. Working knowledge of aerospace quality practices and industry standards. Strong computer skills with high level proficiency in Microsoft Office tools such as Excel and PowerPoint, and comfort using virtual communication and meeting tools such as Teams. Strong communication skills both verbal and written. Experience with project management and facilitation. Ability to interface effectively with all levels of leadership. Ability to identify risks and mitigating actions to achieve positive results. Effective interpersonal skills to interface within and between culturally diverse organizations, define actions, and implement solutions. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for implementing solutions. Knowledge and application of statistical analysis methods is preferred. Excellent team building skills, creating constructive and open environments for sharing data. Experience with aerospace products. Demonstrated leadership capability to drive step‑change improvements in quality performance. Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects and manage the activities of multidisciplinary teams. Proven problem‑solving skills, including ability to interpret data, define actions, and implement solutions. Adept in soliciting facts and opinions from all team members and creating a constructive and open environment for sharing data. Capable of making fact‑based decisions and communicating with team members as to why certain facts or recommendations prevailed over others.
