Medical Technologist

What you get to do: Perform laboratory analyses to enable veterinarians and curators to properly manage the health of the animal collection in the park and the animals rescued, rehabilitated, and returned back into the wild. Enthusiastically represent SeaWorld by displaying a positive attitude, maintaining a high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job. Follow laboratory procedures according to federal, state and local regulations. Follow engineering and work practice controls for laboratory workers. Perform analyses in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, mycology, parasitology, urinalysis, cytology and water chemistry. Compute and prepare test results. Maintain records and enter data into computer. Prepare and process samples and maintain records for animal care and research projects. Maintain laboratory supplies and equipment. Dispense vitamins and other supplies as needed. Assist and participate in animal care projects as needed. Ensure excellent animal care service by responding to team’s requirements, expectations and needs. Other related duties as assigned. What it takes to succeed: At least 18 years old. Bachelor of Science degree in a related field or equivalent experience. Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technician experience. Registered with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). Working knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, including QC and troubleshooting. Working knowledge of Microbiology diagnostics and the Vitek2 preferred. Prepare laboratory reports and enter results in digital medical records. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Basic computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft applications, spreadsheets and databases. Able to sit, walk, talk, use hands, hear, smell and have color vision. Able to stand for prolonged periods of time. Able to handle multiple tasks at once and work in a fast‑paced work environment. Able to work indoors with several large and small laboratory instruments as well as refrigeration and freezer units which create moderate noise. Able to work with limited exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and radiation. Protective equipment is provided when necessary. Able to positively interact with park guests and co‑workers of all ages, different ethnic/cultural backgrounds and/or language, and individuals with special needs. What else is important: Have 5 days of unrestricted availability to include weekends and holidays. 40 hours per week. Overtime hours may be necessary upon business need.
