Transportation Driver Trainee

School Bus Driver

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Participate in theory and behind-the-wheel training to become licensed, certified, and prepared to serve as a school bus driver.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Licenses and Certifications: Valid Class C Texas Driver's License

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Must be 18 years of age
• Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions
• Must maintain an acceptable driving record for school bus drivers as defined by Texas Department of Public Safety
• Must be able to pass an annual physical and mental examination as required by Texas Department of Public Safety
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment and periodic drug and alcohol screening as required by federal law
• Must be able to proficiently read, write, and communicate verbally in English

Experience: Experience working with children preferred but not required

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control; ability to communicate effectively; ability to maintain effective control over groups of students

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Must be physically able to climb in and out of the school bus emergency door to perform evacuation procedures; continuous sitting, reaching, bending; repetitive hand and arm motions; work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures (heat); exposure to vehicle fumes. Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
