Job Details Job Location: Albany, NY 12211 Position Type: Full-Time Education Level: 4 Year Degree Salary Range: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year Travel Percentage: Negligible Job Shift: Day Job Category: Education Overview Together for Youth Secure Detention is hiring a full-time Science Teacher to prepare lesson plans and educate students at all levels. Duties include assigning homework, grading tests, and documenting progress. Teachers must instruct in a variety of subjects and engage students with lesson plans. Job Responsibilities Facilitate lesson plan instructions to students, including 1:1 and small group settings, and help facilitate social and emotional learning components. Develop and issue educational content including notes, tests, and assignments. Supervise classes to ensure all students are learning in a safe and productive environment. Organize supplies and resources for lectures and presentations. Deliver personalized instruction to each student by encouraging interactive learning. Plan and implement educational activities and events. Present lessons in a comprehensive manner using visual/audio means to facilitate learning. Create and distribute educational content. Ensure classroom is clean and orderly. Allocate and grade homework, assignments, and tests. Observe, implement, monitor and complete specific reports regarding student performance and behaviors in the classroom. Provide pre-crisis intervention and conflict resolution, using Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) principles and approved behavior modification techniques/strategies. Comply with all federal, state and local laws and regulations, including those of NYS Office of Children & Family Services. Perform other duties as assigned. Core Competencies Proficient knowledge and skills with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.). Ability to work with an economically and culturally diverse population. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with students, staff, and external partners. Outstanding organizational abilities with keen attention to detail. Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills. Schedule & Compensation Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM (year-round) Compensation: $75,000 to $90,000 per year, depending on experience, education, and skills. Job Requirements Minimum of 1 year of practical teaching experience; middle school and high school teaching experience required. Bachelor’s degree and a valid NYS teaching certificate required, or an equivalent certificate obtained through an NYS- approved pathway that leads to a master’s degree in education and permanent certification. Teaching experience in a high-school alternative school setting highly preferred. Proficient knowledge and skills with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.). Valid driver’s license; ability to travel if needed.
