Job Summary
The Associate Director of Curriculum and Instructional Development leads the planning, development, and implementation of curriculum, Prior Learning Assessment (PLA), and articulation agreements to ensure alignment with workforce needs, industry standards, transfer pathways, and state regulations. This position provides strategic leadership, supervises key staff, and collaborates with internal and external partners to support high-quality instructional programs and seamless student pathways. In-person work on campus is an essential function of this position.
Essential Functions
Plan, coordinate, and oversee the development, revision, and implementation of curriculum in alignment with institutional goals, workforce demands, and state requirements. Facilitate faculty-driven curriculum development processes, including course and program design. Support the Developing a Curriculum (DACUM) process with faculty and industry partners to ensure programs reflect current and emerging industry standards. Ensure all curriculum development activities comply with guidelines established by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). Coordinate with the Director of Accreditation to ensure alignment with the standards of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). Provide direct supervision of the Educational Development Specialist responsible for coordinating course development activities across the institution. Oversee the planning, development, review, and continuous improvement of all academic programs, including traditional academic courses, work-based learning experiences, and PLA options. Ensure that the course development processes are consistent, high-quality, and aligned with institutional standards and workforce needs. Develop, implement, and manage PLA policies, procedures, and offerings in accordance with best practices. Identify and expand opportunities for PLA, including challenge exams, portfolio assessments, and industry-recognized credentials. Oversee the staff responsible for processing PLA applications to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with THECB requirements. Conduct an annual review of all PLA options to ensure consistency and quality. Coordinate with the Director of Accreditation to ensure that PLA practices align with SACSCOC expectations. Provide direct supervision of the Articulation and Partnership Specialist and oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of articulation agreements with institutions of higher education to support seamless student transfer and clearly defined academic pathways. Collaborate closely with Career and Transfer Services (CaTS), El Paso Community College (EPCC) Counselors, Academic Advisors, including First Year Experience, and faculty to ensure these areas are informed of articulation agreements, transfer pathways, and related program updates. Ensure all agreements comply with applicable program and state requirements. Oversee, through the Articulation and Partnership Specialist, the development, implementation, and maintenance of affiliation agreements with industry partners to support Work-Based Learning (WBL) experiences, including internships, clinicals, and apprenticeships. Coordinate with CaTS to ensure all WBL opportunities, whether secured by CaTS or initiated by industry partners, are supported by formal, written agreements and meet applicable legal, risk management, and institutional requirements. Support the development of standardized processes and documentation to ensure consistency across all WBL experiences. Develop and maintain partnerships with industry stakeholders to support curriculum relevance, PLA validation, and program development. Attend and participate in advisory committee meetings to gather input on workforce trends, competencies, and program effectiveness. Engage industry partners in DACUM related activities and program evaluation efforts. Serve as a liaison between Academic Affairs, CaTS, Faculty, and external partners. Ensure all assigned areas maintain compliance with institutional policies and state regulations, including those established by THECB. Coordinate with the Director of Accreditation to support documentation and reporting related to SACSCOC. Compile, analyze, and generate reports using institutional data systems to support institutional effectiveness, compliance, and strategic planning. Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, professional development, and performance management of assigned staff, including establishing performance goals and priorities aligned with the departmental mission. Participate in college committees, task forces, and institutional initiatives.
Support departmental budget planning, resource allocation, and monitoring expenditures related to curriculum and program initiatives. Provide direct oversight of DACUM, Carl Perkins grant, and PLA budgets. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required Qualifications: 1. Bachelor's Degree and seven (7) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. NOTE: A copy of the transcript reflecting this required education MUST be submitted for consideration and reflect completed coursework and degrees conferred. The candidate must be fully qualified for the position at the time of application. 2. Knowledge of curriculum development and instructional design principles. 3. Knowledge of PLA methods and best practices. 4. Knowledge of articulation agreements, transfer pathways, and WBL affiliation agreements. 5. Strong understanding of THECB policies and processes. 6. Ability to interpret and apply state regulations and accreditation standards. 7. Ability to supervise staff and lead multiple functional areas with institutional impact. Strong project management, organizational, and analytical skills. 8. Knowledge of accreditation standards, including SACSCOC. 9. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and external partners. 10. Ability to support budget planning, monitor expenditures, and provide oversight of program-related budgets. 11. Ability to compile, analyze, and generate reports using institutional data to support decision-making and compliance. Desired Qualifications: 1. Developing a curriculum (DACUM) certification is desired or obtained within six (6) months of hire. Special Conditions: 1.
